Microsoft and ASUS are launching two powerful gaming handhelds with the ROG Xbox Ally series, combining Xbox power with Windows flexibility. We’ve compiled all available information for you.
This year will see the release of the ROG Xbox Ally and the more powerful ROG Xbox Ally X, developed in collaboration between Microsoft and ASUS. ROG Xbox Ally and Ally X Release: When Will the Handhelds Launch?
According to official statements from Microsoft and ASUS, both handheld variants are set to launch during the “Holiday Season” 2025, meaning no later than Christmas this year. A report from leaker “eXtas1s” claims the release is specifically planned for October 2025. The latest information suggests pre-orders will be available starting August 20 at 3 PM. On the same day, at the same time, a presentation of the new handheld will take place at Gamescom.
Further research from leaker “Bilbill-kun” indicates that the exact release date is set for October 16, 2025. On that day, the handheld will launch in Europe. Release dates for other regions have not yet been confirmed.
The launch will initially take place in select markets, including Germany, the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, Canada, and others — a total of over 25 regions at launch. Additional markets will follow later.
- Note: It was recently speculated that Xbox had put the production of its own handheld on hold due to improvements in Windows 11 gaming performance.
You can also try out the Xbox handheld at Gamescom 2025. A huge Xbox booth in Hall 6 will feature over 20 games and the ROG Xbox Ally, including the chance to play Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Microsoft and ASUS have not yet provided official pricing. According to the previously mentioned leak, the devices are expected to cost the following in Europe:
- ROG Xbox Ally (white base version): €599 (around 699$)
- ROG Xbox Ally X (more powerful black version): €899 (around 1050$)

Both models feature the same 7-inch display with 1080p resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. ASUS deliberately chose not to use an OLED panel in order to retain VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support and optimize power consumption.
