Beyond combat, Where Winds Meet lets you pursue romantic relationships that can grant real in-game advantages. Here’s how the system works.
In Where Winds Meet, you’re not limited to exploration and martial arts battles. You can also build meaningful bonds with other characters. This guide explains how the romance system works, how to date other players, and what’s possible with NPC relationships.
Is There Romance in Where Winds Meet?
Yes. The game features a relationship and social system that allows you to:
- enter romantic partnerships with other players
- increase the affection of specific NPCs and earn rewards from them
However, marriages are only possible between player characters, not NPCs.
Player Romance: How to Start a Relationship
To start a romantic relationship with another player, you must switch to Online Mode and then follow these steps:
- Open the menu
- PC: Press Esc
- PS5: Press the Options button
- Select “Social”: Open the tab that contains all social features.
- Open “Partnership”: Inside the Social menu, navigate to the partnerships and relationships section.
- Select “Seeking Fate”: In the “Seek a Date” menu, choose the “Seeking Fate” option.
- Travel to the Crimson Cliffs: Head to the Crimson Cliffs region and find Shi Yimo.
- Talk to Shi Yimo: In the dialogue window, select the chat info field labeled “Seeking Fate.”
- Create your Seeking Fate message
- Briefly describe your character or what you’re looking for
- This message will be visible to other players in the world
- Interested players can contact you directly based on it
Intimacy & Partnership (Player Marriage)
Once someone responds to your message or you approach another player yourself, you can begin building your relationship.
Raising Intimacy
To increase your Intimacy level, you can:
- play together and complete quests
- spend time together in the open world
- interact frequently using available social features
As your Intimacy grows:
- you unlock buffs and bonuses
- both of you receive stronger support during combat or activities
- the game reflects how close your bond has become
Partnership / Marriage
Once you’ve built enough Intimacy, you can enter a Partnership — the game’s version of a marriage between two player characters. This feature is exclusive to player-to-player connections. The higher your shared Intimacy, the stronger your bonuses and cooperative benefits become.
NPC Relationships: Affection, Not Marriage
You can’t marry NPCs, but you can increase their Affinity toward you.
How to Raise NPC Affinity
To strengthen your relationship with certain NPCs, you can:
- talk to them regularly
- give them gifts
- follow their stories and dialogue options
Rewards for High Affinity
When an NPC’s Affinity is high enough, you can:
- receive rewards from them (e.g., items, resources, and similar bonuses)
- unlock extra dialogue or small events (depending on the NPC)
Focus especially on NPCs in regions like Qinghe and Kaifeng, where many worthwhile characters can be found.
