Want to reach hidden areas, discover secret rewards, or simply get around faster in The Outer Worlds 2? Then you’ll want to unlock the double jump as soon as possible. In this guide, we’ll show you how to find the Plasma Thruster Boots, complete the related side quest, and permanently unlock the double jump ability.
How to Find the Optional Side Quest for the Double Jump Boots
When you first explore Fairfield on Paradise Island, you’ll meet a young man named Huell Chaudry near the prison. He’s supposed to meet his business partner Jackson Plum to collect some mysterious Protectorate technology.
However, the road from Fairfield to the Spire Grove Plateau is blocked by a damaged freight elevator. Huell can’t get through and asks for your help. Accept the side quest “Perilous Journey to the Grove” to obtain the Plasma Assisted Leaping Equipment (P.A.L.E.) boots – and unlock the double jump in The Outer Worlds 2.

Double Jump in The Outer Worlds 2: How to Find the Plasma Thruster Boots
The path to Spire Grove takes you back south on Paradise Island, near your ship, the Incognito. From the landing site, follow the beach path and pass the Crabber Farm – where you can even adopt a pet.
Next, you’ll pass the “Mysterious Cave” and reach the “Crabber Tower,” where one of Censor Officer Quesnel’s magazines can be found.
Climb the rock wall behind the tower. Once you reach the plateau, head east to arrive at the “Sweet Spire Grove of the Sovereign.” Go under the giant elevator toward the building with the Auntie’s Choice logo. You’ll hear someone shouting – moments later, the PALE boots will drop right in front of you.
With the PALE boots and your new double jump ability, you can reach higher ledges and clear wider gaps. They also cushion your falls to a degree, but they won’t save you from serious drops – fall damage is still very much a thing.
Side Quest “A Final Death For Gravity” Walkthrough
This also triggers the side quest “The Final End of Gravity.” To complete it, equip the Plasma Thruster Boots and locate the “Drive Overloader.” Head to the conveyor belt and pick up the severed arm. Behind the building, you’ll find a railing you can climb to reach the roof.
From there, jump across the platforms using your double jump until you find the Drive Overloader near a generator halfway up. Continue over the scaffolding to the next platform, where you’ll meet two clumsy scientists. Lower the elevator using the Drive Overloader, talk to the rescued pair, and claim your reward.
Finally, return to Huell Chaudry in Fairfield to wrap up his quest as well.
