How to Unlock New Game Plus (NG+) in Starfield
New Game Plus (NG+) is essentially a new playthrough after completing the main quest. Typically, NG+ introduces altered conditions to keep subsequent runs challenging. In Starfield, the system is integrated in a way that makes continuing after the story feel natural and meaningful.
To unlock NG+ in Starfield, you must first complete the main quest, ending with the final mission “One Giant Leap.” Once the story concludes, the credits roll and a screen explains the beginning of your next journey. More details can be found in the next section, “All Changes in NG+.”
After that, the mission “One Small Step” becomes available again, and you’ll be asked to return to the Constellation lodge. There, you can decide whether to skip the main quest in your second playthrough or replay it in full.
If you choose to skip it, you’ll instead begin the mission “Among the Stars,” where your objective is to locate all remaining undiscovered artifacts. No matter what you decide, all other quests can be played again. Your entire quest progress is reset.
Starfield New Game Plus: All Changes in NG+
What You Lose
- All quest progress is lost! Every faction, companion, and side quest disappears from your journal—regardless of whether you completed them or not. Essentially, the entire game world is reset.
- Your inventory is almost completely wiped! Weapons, ammo, gear, resources, and consumables are removed.
- Credits: Your savings are taken, but you’ll receive fresh starting funds.
What Carries Over
- Skills and level carry over. All unlocked abilities, ranks, unused skill points, and your character level remain intact.
- Unlocked powers remain: All powers acquired during the “Into the Unknown” quest are retained.
- The Frontier stays. The Constellation ship you receive at the start of the main quest carries over into NG+.
- Star systems: Previously discovered systems remain accessible on the star map—but planets and their specific locations do not.
What You Get Fresh
- Spacesuit: You’ll receive a powerful legendary spacesuit as a reward for completing the main quest.
- Spaceship: You’ll also get a new ship that packs a serious punch.
- Starter gear: You begin with a modded weapon and ammo, the Cutter for resource gathering, some credits, and med packs.
