The Shimizu Residence in Silent Hill f is packed with cryptic puzzles, visions, and hidden clues. In this walkthrough, we guide you through the eerie photo, the scales puzzle, and the logic behind Hinako’s room. You’ll also learn where to find all three crests and how to use them to solve the large crest puzzle so you can move on to the next section.
Shimizu Residence I: My Room, the Ominous Photo, and the Propane Hose
On your first pass through the Shimizu Residence, you will find several puzzles. Keep right and after the save shrine, you’ll reach Hinako’s room. You can only enter once you’ve found three crests. There’s also a calendar missing from the wall beside the door.
A bit farther down the hall on the left, you’ll find the living room lined with unsettling paintings. On a group photo—the “Ominous Photo”—Hinako is crossed out. Other frames on the wall can be rotated, and one is missing.
Left of the entrance is a kitchen spattered with blood. Hinako notes the stove has propane, but a propane tube is missing.
Follow the hallway to the right of Hinako’s room. At the end is a door that takes three crests, and one is missing. The calendar lies to the right — hang it on the wall next to Hinako’s room. The light behind the door to your left starts flickering, and you can now go through.
Shimizu Residence II: Calendar, Picture Frame, Scales Puzzle, and the First Crest
You’re now in the second section of the Shimizu Residence. In the west wing, you’ll reach the dining room, where Hinako is struck by a vision. Afterward, take the calendar from the table. In the east wing, you’ll find a picture frame (Hinako’s portrait) in a storage room.
You’ll find another version of Hinako’s room here. Hang the second calendar on the wall next to the door, and the door to your left will open again. Before you go through, continue down the hall to the west and enter the last room on the left.
Inside is your next puzzle: a set of scales with wooden figurines. Place the headless figure on the left and all other figurines on the right. The scale will open and reveal the first crest, the Scales Crest.
Then go through the door the calendar opened to enter Shimizu Residence III.
Shimizu Residence III: Find the Gas Hose and Wax Block
In the southwest section, there’s another kitchen with a propane tube. In Hinako’s room, examine the shelf by the bloodstain (tilt the camera down) and pull the block of wax from the book. Go through the nearby door with the flickering light to return to the first Shimizu Residence.
Shimizu Residence I: Get the Feathered Key, the Eerie Photo, and the Second Crest
Head back to the kitchen on the left and attach the propane tube to the stove. Drop the block of wax into the pot to craft the “Fletching Key.” Next, hang the painting in the living room in the empty spot and rotate it so it’s upside down. The group photo will fall to the floor, revealing the second crest (White Bird and Fox Crest).
Shimizu Residence III: Find the Third Crest
Grab the third crest (Black Bird and Sword Crest) from the living room in the third Shimizu Residence. You’ll recognize it by the bird symbol on the door. Unlock it with the “Fletching Key,” and pick up the crest from the table after the vision.
Silent Hill f Shimizu Residence I: Solve the Crest Puzzle
With all crests collected, you can solve the crest puzzle on Hinako’s room door back in Shimizu Residence I. Read the hint on the calendar to the right of the door:
- “The sword and the fox fought on a scale. Even the sky trembled at the ferocity of their battle.”
This tells you the sword and the fox are directly linked and must be placed on the scale. The scale itself represents the arena of their fight, while the sky only reacts to the scene and therefore belongs at the top.
Arrange the emblems as follows:
- Top: Clouds / Sky
- Bottom: empty (turn the crest around)
- Left: Sword
- Right: Fox
Inside Hinako’s room, you’ll find the Pine Tree Crest, which unlocks the final section of the Shimizu Residence — and the boss fight there. Slot the crest into the door next to where you found the first calendar.
