To earn the “Cat Got Your Tongue?” trophy in Resident Evil Requiem, you need to find a Licker and cut off its tongue. We’ll show you where to do this best and how to pull it off.
Lickers once again rank among the most unpleasant enemies in Resident Evil Requiem. They’re fast, aggressive, and deadly if you don’t understand their attack patterns. At the same time, they are tied to a bronze trophy that can be easily missed. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to cut off a Licker’s tongue and unlock “Cat Got Your Tongue?”.
Lickers Overview: Behavior, Strengths and Weaknesses
Lickers don’t appear right at the start, but only later in the game – especially in the ARK area. At the latest, you’ll encounter several of them at once in the larger bioweapons storage facility with Leon. They don’t just move on the ground, but also on the ceiling. This is exactly where the situation becomes perfect for going after the trophy.
What You Should Know About Lickers:
- They are blind and primarily rely on sound.
- They move in jerky motions and quickly switch between passive and aggressive behavior.
- They attack either with claws or their long tongue.
- The tongue attack deals heavy damage and has surprisingly long range.
Important: Not every attack counts for the trophy. Only the tongue attack matters.
“Cat Got Your Tongue?” – How to Cut Off a Licker’s Tongue
For this trophy, you must cut off a Licker’s tongue using the hatchet. This is all about timing.
Step-by-Step Guide
- Position yourself in front: Stand a few meters directly in front of a Licker. Make sure you keep enough distance so it prefers using its tongue instead of claws.
- Stay patient: Lickers often pause briefly before attacking. Don’t rush.
- Watch the animation: Just before striking with its tongue, the Licker slightly turns its head to the side. It “winds up” to gain momentum. That’s your moment.
- Parry with perfect timing: Press R1 (PS) or RB (Xbox) exactly as the tongue attack lands. If you time it correctly, you won’t just block – Leon will automatically counter with the hatchet and cut off the tongue.
- Unlock the trophy: The achievement triggers immediately after a successful action.
Timing, Mistakes & Best Farming Method
The biggest challenge is the extremely tight timing window for the parry. If you press too early, you’ll block the attack but the tongue remains intact and the trophy won’t trigger. If you react too late, you’ll take the full hit and damage. Also make sure you are actually parrying the tongue attack, because claw attacks do not count toward the trophy.
For a more relaxed approach, use the autosave before the bioweapons storage and reload if needed. It’s also a good idea not to weaken the Licker beforehand, as you may need it for multiple attempts. Try to lure it into an open area so no other enemies interfere, and stay as calm as possible, since frantic movement often triggers claw attacks instead.
