The latest “Voyagers” update for No Man’s Sky is currently causing major display issues on the Xbox Series X: Instead of visuals, players are greeted by a black screen at launch, while music and sound effects continue to play. The bug seems to primarily affect the Series X, though some reports also mention Xbox One and Series S. Developer Hello Games has yet to officially comment on the issue, and a full patch is still pending.

The problem surfaced right after installing the Voyagers update, released in late August 2025, which introduced a new starship class, expanded multiplayer features, and technical upgrades. The new Corvette class, featuring walkable interiors and crew management, was a particular highlight.

But alongside these additions, complaints quickly piled up on Reddit, Steam, and YouTube about persistent startup issues on Xbox. Affected players report that after the update, the game boots into nothing but a black screen, while audio continues in the background. The problem likely stems from a conflict between graphics output and HDR settings.

Community Offers Temporary Workarounds

With no official fix yet, various stopgap solutions are circulating in forums and help sites. Many players recommend disabling HDR10 and Dolby Vision in the Xbox system settings, then restarting the game. Alternatively, performing a full power cycle — shutting the console down completely, unplugging it from power, then restarting — may help.

Other suggestions focus on the HDMI connection: checking or swapping cables, tweaking TV settings. Disabling overlay features from graphics tools such as AMD Adrenalin or Nvidia GeForce Experience has also been reported by GearUpBooster to improve startup behavior. Still, none of these measures reliably solve the issue, they only work in isolated cases.

Patch Attempt Fell Short

There has already been one update attempt, which reportedly fixed the black screen for some, but not all, players. Game files and save data remain intact, according to reports, with the issue limited solely to video output at launch.

It’s still unclear when Hello Games will release an official patch that resolves the problem across all Xbox models. Until then, affected players are left with the above workarounds or waiting for a stable fix.
