Will there be a preload for Hollow Knight: Silksong?

According to Team Cherry, there won’t be an option to pre-order the game. That also means no preload will be available. You’ll only be able to download Silksong once it officially releases on September 4 at 4:00 PM CEST.

However, the download size should remain modest, judging by the file size of its predecessor. The system requirements list only 8 GB of free storage space. The only downside: with a game this highly anticipated, servers could be under heavy load at launch.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – What to expect in the game

Unlike the original, Silksong puts you in the role of Hornet, who previously appeared as an antagonist. This agile fighter brings a completely new playstyle: faster, more offensive, and with new movement options like pulling herself directly onto ledges.

Silksong takes place in the kingdom of Pharloom – a brighter, more colorful world compared to the gloomy Hallownest of the first game. The adventure begins with Hornet’s capture and escape from a caravan. From there, you’ll fight your way up toward the Citadel of Pharloom, flipping the core mechanic of the predecessor where you descended deeper underground.

According to the developers, the game stays true to its Metroidvania roots: exploring an interconnected world, defeating enemies, unlocking abilities, and backtracking to discover new paths. A new quest system allows Hornet to take on missions directly.
