How long you’ll spend in Hollow Knight: Silksong really depends on your goal. If you’re only chasing the main story, your playtime will be much shorter than if you’re aiming for a full 100% completion. Here’s a breakdown of the average playtimes.

Silksong Playtime: How Many Hours You Should Plan For

Hollow Knight: Silksong launched on September 4, 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch – and it’s included with Game Pass. By now, the first players have already finished the game and shared their playtimes. Depending on how you play, you’ll need to add or subtract a few hours – these are only averages:

Main Story: If you skip most side paths and focus on the main quest, expect around 22 hours. For comparison, the first game averaged closer to 27 hours.

Main Story + Exploration: If you take your time to discover hidden areas and backtrack between regions, you’re looking at 27–30 hours.

100% Completion: Going for every secret and the Platinum Trophy nearly doubles the length, bringing the total to 43–45 hours.

It’s also confirmed that a special mode called “Silk Soul” unlocks after your first playthrough. This hardcore option is aimed at veteran players and can extend the playtime even further.

  • Note: If you need multiple attempts on bosses or simply like to soak in the world at a slower pace, your personal playtime may end up being much higher.

A Standalone Adventure with High Replay Value

In Silksong, you step into the role of Hornet, who appeared as an antagonist in the first game. Her agile combat style, new healing mechanics, and refined platforming add fresh twists to the familiar Metroidvania formula. Pharloom itself is more colorful than Hallownest, yet just as dangerous.

As with the original, multiple playthroughs will likely be needed to uncover all the secrets – especially with the new difficulty mode and optional content like the Flea Circus to explore in full.

Silksong releases on September 4, 2025, digitally for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC. A physical edition hasn’t been announced yet. The game unlocks worldwide at 4 PM CEST.
