Just ahead of release, it’s still hard to put an exact number on how long Hollow Knight: Silksong will keep you busy. What’s clear, though: Team Cherry’s follow-up to the celebrated indie hit is shaping up to be an even bigger adventure. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect in terms of playtime.

Silksong Playtime: How Many Hours You Should Plan For

Launching on September 4, 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch – also on Game Pass – Hollow Knight: Silksong doesn’t yet have an official runtime confirmed. Still, everything points to a large-scale adventure. Originally planned as a DLC, the project grew into a full-fledged sequel with its own world, new protagonist, and plenty of new mechanics.

The developers have stated that Silksong will at least match the scope of the first game – and most likely surpass it. The original Hollow Knight offered the following average playtimes, depending on playstyle:

  • Main Story: approx. 27 hours
  • Main Story + Extras: approx. 41.5 hours
  • 100% Completion: approx. 64.5 hours

For Silksong, that number is expected to go up. The game features over 200 enemy types, more than 40 boss fights, and a new quest system that lets you accept tasks directly. The world of Pharloom is larger and more vertical than Hallownest from the first game. On top of that, the charm system has been replaced with a tool system, and a new in-game currency has been added.

It’s also confirmed that after finishing the game once, you’ll unlock a new mode called “Steel Soul.” This one is designed for experienced players looking for extra challenges – potentially extending the overall playtime even further.

  • Note: As soon as official average playtime numbers are released, we’ll update this section. For now, estimates suggest Silksong could take anywhere from 30 to 70+ hours depending on your playstyle.

A Standalone Adventure with High Replay Value

In Silksong, you step into the role of Hornet, who appeared as an antagonist in the first game. Her agile combat style, new healing mechanics, and refined platforming add fresh twists to the familiar Metroidvania formula. Pharloom itself is more colorful than Hallownest, yet just as dangerous.

As with the original, multiple playthroughs will likely be needed to uncover all the secrets – especially with the new difficulty mode and optional content like the Flea Circus to explore in full.

Silksong releases on September 4, 2025, digitally for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC. A physical edition hasn’t been announced yet. The game unlocks worldwide at 4 PM CEST.
