Development on Rockstar’s GTA 6 is taking longer than expected. Here’s everything we know so far about the release and new location.
Late last year, Rockstar finally released the first trailer for GTA 6. While fans will have to wait a bit longer for the new entry in the action series, new information about the map, release, and platforms has already surfaced — with more to come in the months ahead. Below, we’ve compiled everything currently known about GTA 6.

When will GTA 6 release?
After Rockstar had initially announced May 26, 2026 as the release date for GTA 6, the developer has once again decided to push the launch back. The highly anticipated title is now expected to release on November 19, 2026.
According to Rockstar, the delay is intended to allow for more polish. The sixth entry in the popular series was originally planned for late 2025 – meaning the studio is now running about a year behind schedule.
GTA 6: Release on PlayStation, Xbox Series, and PC?
In a press release, Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 will not be released for last-gen consoles such as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will launch exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC version has not yet been officially announced, but is very likely to follow later.
How long is GTA 6?
There are no official details on GTA 6’s total playtime yet, but early leaks suggest the main story will take around 40 hours to complete – slightly longer than GTA 5.
If you plan to complete all side missions as well, expect roughly double that time – around 80 to 100 hours in total for full completion.
How much will GTA 6 cost?
The final price of GTA 6 hasn’t been confirmed yet. Industry insiders expect it to be the most expensive entry in the franchise so far. With development costs far exceeding those of GTA 5, prices are expected to start at over €70. Multiple editions with exclusive bonuses are also likely.
Can you preorder GTA 6?
GTA 6 cannot yet be officially preordered through Rockstar Games, as the title remains in active development. Some retailers are listing placeholder versions, but there is no official preorder option at this time.
For GTA 5, preorders began about a year after the second trailer. If Rockstar follows a similar pattern, fans will need to wait a little longer.

Although the game won’t release until next year, we already know a few things about the map and setting of GTA 6.

The full map hasn’t been revealed yet, but Rockstar confirmed it will feature an open world. Artwork shows main character Lucia wearing an ankle monitor, suggesting that parts of the map may only become accessible later in the story.
The first trailer shows various ways to get around, including cars, helicopters, planes, motorcycles, and boats.
Update from July 21, 2025: A hidden clue about GTA 6’s map was discovered in the second trailer and related screenshots. In one scene, a hand-drawn map can be seen on a hangar floor — fans believe it depicts parts of the “Leonida Keys,” an island chain south of Vice City.
This region appears to be much larger than previously assumed, suggesting a more expansive world with a stronger focus on water-based travel. The map likely shows the southern part of the world, where protagonist Jason begins the story.
Which city does GTA 6 take place in?
GTA 6 is set in Leonida, also known as Vice City. The city is heavily inspired by Miami, so expect sunny beaches, towering buildings, and non-stop nightlife.
All Characters Overview
The trailer for GTA 6 reveals the first set of characters appearing in the game – including Lucia, who partners up with her companion in a Bonnie and Clyde-style spree of armed robberies. While his name hasn’t been officially confirmed, leaks strongly point to him being “Jason.”
The trailer also hints at Lucia’s background and personality. She’s already served prison time and doesn’t shy away from criminal activity.
Will GTA 6 have cheats?
It’s not yet known whether GTA 6 will feature the classic cheat codes that can be activated through button combinations. In previous titles like GTA 5, cheats allowed players to become invincible, spawn weapons, ammo, or vehicles. It’s quite likely that GTA 6 will include a similar feature.
