Anyone who’s played Grounded 2 knows how quickly the inventory can fill up. Axe, hammer, shovel, and even the wrench – it all adds weight and takes up space. That’s where the Omni-Tool comes in. This new multi-purpose item brings all the essential functions together in one tool. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get it, what advantages it offers, and how to upgrade it effectively.

How and when to get the Omni-Tool

You’ll get the Omni-Tool fairly early in the main story. It’s not a starter item, so you’ll need to find it first. The key moment comes during your visit to the Ranger Outpost at the Snack Bar location.

The story will automatically lead you there – no need to search for long. Just take a good look around: the Omni-Tool hangs clearly visible on a wall and can be picked up right away. That means you’ll have a powerful tool very early on that makes life much easier.

Functions of the Omni-Tool

The Omni-Tool replaces several classic tools that you would normally have to craft separately. Specifically, it includes:

  • Axe: For chopping down plants and basic building materials.
  • Hammer: For breaking stones, acorns, and other hard objects.
  • Shovel: For digging up dirt, clay, or buried items.
  • Wrench: For repairing structures.

Controls remain intuitive. Approach a blade of grass or a dandelion and simply press the corresponding button to start gathering. There’s no need to manually switch modes – the tool automatically recognizes the right function.

Upgrades and tiers of the Omni-Tool

To make sure the Omni-Tool stays both practical and powerful, you can upgrade it throughout the game. Each function (axe, hammer, shovel, wrench) has its own upgrade path, unlocked at special terminals inside the Ranger Stations.

Tier 1

With this, you can handle all the basics: cutting grass, breaking pebbles, small repairs, and digging soil. Perfect for the early hours of the game.

Tier 2

This level unlocks harder materials. However, you’ll need some rare components, such as:

  • Omni-Axe Tier 2: 2,000 Raw Science, cockroach parts, berry leather
  • Omni-Hammer Tier 2: Ladybug head, blueberrie leather
  • Omni-Shovel Tier 2: Scorpion stinger, pine needles

Tiers 3 to 5

These tiers have been announced but aren’t available yet. According to the developers, future updates will add new materials and uses – so it’s worth keeping an eye on the roadmap.

Grounded 2: Omni-Tool advantages

The biggest advantage is obvious: saving space. Instead of carrying four different tools, you only need the Omni-Tool. Especially during long trips through the yard, this saves you time and valuable inventory slots.

On top of that, you’ll always have the right tool ready – whether you’re gathering, building, or fighting. Thanks to upgrades, it grows stronger alongside you and stays useful throughout the game.

What’s your take on the Omni-Tool – do you prefer an all-in-one solution, or do you like keeping the classic tools separate like in the first game?
