We’ll tell you how much playtime Ghost of Yotei offers and what parallels it draws to its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima.
Ghost of Yotei is the successor to Ghost of Tsushima and launches on October 2, 2025, exclusively for PlayStation 5. Once again developed by Sucker Punch, this time the spotlight is on a new character: Atsu, a mercenary out for revenge. But how much playtime does the new samurai adventure really offer? Here we’ve summarized how long you’ll spend with the main story, side content, and a full completion run.
Ghost of Yotei playtime: What to expect
Ghost of Yotei is deliberately modeled on the playtime of its predecessor, Ghost of Tsushima. According to Creative Director Jason Connell, playtime varies depending on your playstyle as follows:
- Main story: If you focus on the core narrative, you can finish the game in about 25 hours. The story of the hunt for the so-called Yōtei Six is less linear than in the previous game but remains clearly structured narratively.
- Main story & side quests: If you also complete some side quests, unlock new gear, and explore the open world at a moderate pace, expect around 35 to 46 hours. Side activities are more deliberately integrated than before and can be uncovered through different investigative threads.
- 100% completion: For players who want to explore every corner, complete all side missions, unlock every weapon and skill, and go for the platinum trophy, playtime will be around 60 to 62 hours. Depending on how thorough you are, it can take even longer.
One striking aspect is the flexibility: the open-world structure makes it easy to lose yourself in side content. For example, players who remain only in the starting area and complete everything there could spend 15 to 20 hours in that region alone.
- Note: Playtime figures are rough estimates. Actual playtime may vary significantly depending on playstyle.
Ghost of Yotei stays compact
Despite its open world and numerous opportunities for exploration, Sucker Punch has intentionally kept the playtime clearly defined. Unlike many modern open-world titles that aim for the 100-hour mark, Ghost of Yotei avoids artificial padding. The developers emphasize that emotional intensity and narrative clarity are more important to them than sheer length.
The modular structure built around the Yōtei Six also adds some replay value: if you follow one path on your first playthrough, you can take alternative routes and discover different areas the next time. While this doesn’t drastically extend playtime, it does add variety to the experience.
