Ghost of Yotei has received the long-awaited Legends mode. We explain what it’s all about and what you should know at launch.
Ghost of Yotei Legends has been available since March 10, 2026 as a free update for PS5. The co-op mode expands the main game with a standalone multiplayer experience that reimagines the familiar story as a darker, more mythical version. Instead of realistic warlords, you will face exaggerated demon bosses, new classes and several game modes for two to four players.
- Legends was developed alongside the campaign and is not a feature that was added later. You get a full co-op mode with progression, a loot system, raid content and an interactive lobby.
What is Ghost of Yotei Legends?
Ghost of Yotei Legends is a standalone online co-op mode for up to four players on PS5. The story revolves around the Yotei Six, but portrays them as legends that have been transformed into demonic figures over generations. This means you are not simply replaying the campaign, but experiencing a supernatural retelling with far more spectacular boss fights.
Does the mode cost extra?
If you own Ghost of Yotei, you receive Legends as a free update. All cosmetic content is unlocked through gameplay. There are no microtransactions.
- Note: For online matches you still need an internet connection, a PlayStation account and an active PlayStation Plus subscription.
Which classes can you play?
At launch you can choose from four classes:
- Samurai
- Archer
- Mercenary
- Shinobi
Each class has a signature weapon. The Samurai focuses on the Odachi, the Archer uses a spear, the Mercenary fights with two katanas and the Shinobi wields a Kusarigama.
You are not strictly bound to these weapons, however. The system allows flexible builds, even though the technology tree and equipment clearly support specific roles. If you want, you can even enter missions with four Samurai and still complete all content.
How does the progression system work?
Ghost of Yotei Legends features four difficulty levels. The higher you play, the faster you gain experience points and the better the loot becomes. Recommended gear levels are displayed, but you can deliberately take on greater challenges if you prefer.

What mission types are available?
You can choose between several modes:
- Story missions for two players gradually introduce you to the legends.
- Incursion missions are designed for four players and send you directly into the domains of the bosses.
- In Survival mode four players defend multiple areas against waves of enemies. Blessings and curses create dynamic battles. Holding a zone grants advantages. Losing it makes the battlefield far more dangerous.
Who are the bosses in Legends?
The Yotei Six appear here as supernatural demons. At launch you will face enemies such as The Spider, The Oni, The Kitsune and The Snake. Each boss comes with unique elite enemies and thematic abilities. This creates different combat requirements and forces you to adapt your builds.
When will the raid arrive and what can you expect?
The raid will be released in a later update after the March 2026 launch. It is clearly designed for four coordinated players. Unlike other missions, full teamwork is mandatory here. Without coordinated strategies, you will struggle to succeed. The raid is aimed at players looking for the maximum challenge.
What is the new lobby about?
Instead of a static menu, you enter an interactive 3D lobby. While waiting for teammates, you can adjust your builds, equip unlocked cosmetics or try training options. There are also small mini-games such as the coin game Zeni Hajiki and a Bamboo Strike challenge with leaderboards.
Is Ghost of Yotei Legends worth it for solo players?
The mode is clearly designed for co-op, but many activities can still be completed with fewer than four players. Enemy numbers and intensity scale with the group size. However, you will need a fixed team for the raid. Story and survival content are more flexible to approach.
