What is Gears of War: Reloaded?
Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the first entry in the series from 2006. Unlike a full remake, the core gameplay remains intact – but the game has been thoroughly overhauled technically. Alongside updated textures, HDR, 4K assets and Dolby Atmos, Reloaded also includes new control options, crossplay and optimized performance across all platforms.
Story and Campaign
The story takes place 14 years after an invasion by the subterranean Locust. Death row inmate Marcus Fenix is freed from prison by his old comrade Dom Santiago to join Delta Squad and face the threat. The campaign can be played solo or in co-op – either split-screen locally or online.
What’s new in Gears of War: Reloaded?
The Reloaded version includes all content from previous releases, such as:
- An additional campaign act
- All multiplayer maps
- New character skins
- All cosmetic items from past DLCs
On top of that, the game has been technically modernized. You can look forward to features like:
- 4K resolution, HDR and 60 FPS in campaign
- Up to 120 FPS in multiplayer (144 FPS on PC)
- Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos
- Improved shadows, reflections and textures
- Support for UltraWide monitors, DLSS 3.5, FSR 3.1 and variable refresh rate
- No loading screens in the campaign
- DualSense features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers on PS5
- Benchmark mode and full mouse-keyboard support on PC
Gears of War: Reloaded supports crossplay and cross-progression across all platforms. Progress – in both campaign and multiplayer – is saved across systems. A Microsoft account is required.
Multiplayer: Versus Modes and Co-op
In addition to the campaign, Gears of War: Reloaded offers an extensive multiplayer mode. In online versus, up to eight players compete against each other. Classic modes like Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Warzone are available. In local or online co-op, you can play through the story campaign with another player.
