There are plenty of games like Phasmophobia. We have rounded up the best games that follow a similar approach.
For many of you, Phasmophobia was the gateway into co-op horror: lights flicker, radios crackle and somewhere in the house there is something that does not want you there. Together you gather clues, analyze paranormal activity and try to make it out alive. Even though Phasmophobia still receives regular updates, a bit of variety is always welcome. By now, several horror games exist that share similar strengths and in some cases even bring their own ideas to the table. We have listed the best alternatives for you.
Demonologist: Probably the strongest Phasmophobia competitor
- Players: 1-4 players
- Focus: realistic ghost hunting, intense atmosphere
Demonologist is clearly aimed at fans of Phasmophobia who want a darker, more serious and uncompromising experience. You investigate cursed locations, collect evidence using classic equipment and must carefully analyze what type of demon you are dealing with.
The maps are highly detailed, the lighting effects are extremely effective and the ghosts are far more aggressive than what you may be used to from Phasmophobia. Especially in co-op, you quickly notice how important clear communication and role distribution are.
Ufophilia: Paranormal, but with an alien focus
- Players: single player
- Focus: UFOs, aliens, mystery horror
Ufophilia picks up where Phasmophobia leaves off. Instead of classic ghosts, the game focuses on extraterrestrial phenomena, secret experiments and the constant feeling of being watched. You gather clues, explore remote locations and try to uncover what is behind the strange events.
The horror relies less on jump scares and more on atmosphere, sound design and uncertainty. This works especially well when you split up as a team and suddenly nobody responds anymore. Still, the setting and equipment in Ufophilia are strongly reminiscent of Phasmophobia, so several mechanics will feel familiar.
Pacify: When co-op horror completely escalates
- Players: 1-4 players
- Focus: pursuit, stress, fast-paced rounds
Pacify is more direct and hectic than Phasmophobia. Instead of cautious investigations, you must calm cursed entities, perform rituals or collect items while an extremely aggressive threat hunts you constantly.
In co-op, this regularly leads to chaos, panic and very loud voice chats. The individual scenarios are compact but intense and perfect for short, sweat-inducing horror sessions.
Ghost Exile: Identify ghosts and exorcise them directly
- Players: 1-4 players
- Focus: evidence gathering and active exorcism
Ghost Exile closely follows the Phasmophobia formula, but expands it in meaningful ways. You not only discover which ghost is haunting the location, you can also banish it at the end. This gives each mission a clearer goal and adds variety.
The equipment is extensive, the learning curve is noticeable and the challenge increases with every successful mission. In a team, good timing is crucial, especially during the exorcism.
Midnight Ghost Hunt: Horror meets PvP
- Players: 1-8 players
- Focus: multiplayer, hide and seek
Midnight Ghost Hunt flips the concept around. Some of you play as ghosts, while others take on the role of ghost hunters. Ghosts can transform into furniture, set traps and sabotage the hunters until midnight, when an all-out confrontation begins.
The horror here is less subtle but far more action-focused and competitive. It is ideal if you enjoy horror but also want fast rounds and PvP.
Inside the Backrooms: Disorientation as a horror concept
- Players: 1-4 players
- Focus: exploration, puzzles, psychological horror
Inside the Backrooms is built around the well-known Backrooms concept: endless, monotonous spaces, little sense of direction and the constant feeling that you are not alone. Together you solve puzzles, search for exits and try to avoid the creatures lurking within.
The horror unfolds slowly but constantly. Especially in co-op, this creates an intense atmosphere that strongly resembles the oppressive moments from Phasmophobia. It is no coincidence that Inside the Backrooms was, for a time, one of the most popular games on Twitch.
