The game brings back the protagonist of the first installment and drops players into a new, zombie-infested region. Here’s everything worth knowing before launch.

When does Dying Light: The Beast release?

Dying Light: The Beast launches worldwide on September 18, 2025. You can find the exact start time in your region in the image below. The game was originally set for August 22, 2025, announced during Summer Game Fest 2025 alongside a new gameplay trailer. At the end of July, Techland confirmed a one-month delay to allow for polish and optimization. The release was then moved to September 19, 2025 — until Techland pulled it forward by a day just a week before launch.

What’s the story in Dying Light: The Beast?

The story takes place in Castor Woods, a once-popular tourist destination reminiscent of the Swiss Alps, now overrun by the infected. To take revenge on the Baron, you’ll need to forge fragile alliances and use every combat and traversal tool at your disposal.

What is Beast Mode in Dying Light: The Beast?

Beast Mode is one of the game’s big new features. Thanks to the Baron’s experiments, Kyle Crane can switch between two playstyles: human survivor and uncontrollable beast. In Beast Mode, you gain superhuman strength and fight with your bare hands instead of weapons. The brutality reaches a new level—you can crush skulls, tear off heads, and rip enemies apart.

How big is the game world, and how long does it take to finish?

According to franchise director Tymon Smektala, Dying Light: The Beast takes about 18 hours to complete. Expect several more if you’re hunting down all secrets. Compared to Dying Light 2, The Beast offers a more compact, linear experience.

Castor Woods features multiple biomes, including a tourist town, industrial zones, a national park, farmland, and swamps. While Techland hasn’t revealed the exact map size, they promise a handcrafted zombie apocalypse with next-gen visuals where every detail tells a survival story.

Gameplay in Dying Light: The Beast

Dying Light: The Beast keeps many of the franchise’s fan-favorite elements:

  • The day-night cycle returns, offering two radically different experiences. Daytime lets you scavenge and explore, while night unleashes true horrors—leaving you with three options: run, hide, or fight for your life.
  • The parkour system is back, letting you leap from rooftop to rooftop and clear any obstacle. It’s accessible to all but rewards mastery.
  • Vehicles also make a comeback. You can hop into an off-road vehicle and mow down hordes of zombies, adding unmatched freedom of movement across the open world.

The recently released trailer showcases 30 minutes of gameplay, offering a closer look at Castor Woods and Kyle’s hunt for the Baron, aided by Olivia. Gameplay spans parkour, crafting, stealth, and combat. Night brings much deadlier enemies than the day—including the so-called Shadow Hunters.

The trailer also highlights safe zones, where you can rest, regroup, and use workbenches to upgrade your weapons.

Does Dying Light: The Beast have co-op?

Yes, the game supports co-op for up to four players. You can team up to tackle the dangers of Castor Woods together. Every fight, discovery, and story beat can be experienced as a group.

Shared progression ensures you can complete the entire campaign side by side—facing relentless enemies, scavenging resources, and saving each other from death.
