Kearush the Slayer is the first major test in Chapter 5 of Crimson Desert. Here’s how to safely beat the boss across all three phases.

Kearush isn’t an enemy you should take lightly in Crimson Desert. With aggressive combo chains, leaping attacks, and dangerous grabs, he can overwhelm you fast. To dodge precisely in the tight arena, you’ll need perfect timing and clean positioning. Go in unprepared, and you’ll likely fail as early as Phase 2.

Preparation: Without the Right Gear, This Fight Gets Tough

Before starting the fight, you should upgrade your gear to at least level 3 and Kliff’s health and stamina stats to level 4.

Here’s why: Kearush deals massive damage. Higher defense gives you room for mistakes—something you’ll need in this cramped arena with less-than-ideal camera angles.

  • Note: In our Crimson Desert tips guide, you’ll find two armor sets that provide a huge defensive boost for this boss fight.

Even more important is reliable healing. Bring a large amount of healing items—ideally 50 to 100 units like grilled meat or soups. The fight drags on and constantly forces you to heal. If you cut corners here, you’ll run out of resources in the later phases.

Consumables that boost attack, defense, or stamina also help. If you want to play it safe, bring revive items as well.

Kearush is extremely vulnerable to fire. Fire weapons or fire arrows can stagger him and create long damage windows. These moments are key to dealing heavy damage.

If you don’t have a fire weapon, go with a strong two-handed weapon or the Sword of the Lord from Chapter 2. Heavy attacks are especially effective for maximizing damage during short openings.

Core Strategy: How to Fight Kearush

You can’t reliably block Kearush. His attacks frequently break through Kliff’s guard, making dodging your most important tool.

The fight follows a clear pattern: wait for the boss to attack, dodge the entire sequence, then counter briefly. Never interrupt his combos—always wait until they fully finish.

Use the arena to your advantage: walls and pillars can briefly shield you and give you time to heal. With the right abilities, you can even gain height and avoid attacks entirely. Lock-on also helps you stay oriented—especially in the chaotic final phase.

Above all: patience beats aggression. Play controlled, read his patterns, and capitalize on openings to take Kearush down consistently.

Kearush Phase 1: Learn the Rhythm

In Phase 1, Kearush mainly uses simple slam and combo attacks, usually consisting of three to four hits.

Your goal is to understand the rhythm. Dodge backward, study the timing, and use the short pause afterward to land your own hits. Two to three quick attacks are enough—then immediately create distance again. Playing patiently here will save you a lot of healing items for later.

If Kearush jumps into the air, roll underneath him. This puts you in a great position to counterattack. You can recognize his grab attack by a forward lunge—just dodge sideways.

Kearush Phase 2: New Attacks, More Pressure

Once the second health bar kicks in, the fight becomes significantly more challenging. Two new attacks define this phase.

During the wall jump, Kearush briefly clings to a surface before launching himself at you. Don’t dodge too early—wait until he actually leaps. Afterward, you’ll have a perfect window for heavy attacks or special abilities.

More dangerous is his immunity phase. Kearush beats his chest, becomes briefly invulnerable, and then unleashes a rapid attack barrage.

There’s only one rule here: keep your distance and dodge nonstop until it’s over. Heal early rather than too late—hesitation can get you killed quickly.

Kearush Phase 3: Maximum Aggression

In the final phase, Kearush combines all previous attacks but becomes much faster and more aggressive. His combos are longer and his recovery windows shorter.

This is where discipline matters most: only attack after fully completed combos and stay patient. One mistake can cost you your entire health bar.

Your best damage opportunity remains the wall jump attack. Dodge cleanly and punish every opening with heavy hits or abilities.
