The switch puzzle during Octavius’ experiment in Crimson Desert is all about the correct order. Here’s the solution.
In Chapter 4 of Crimson Desert, you assist the scholar orc Octavius during the quest “Gate to the Otherworld.” To proceed with his experiment, you need to solve a switch puzzle to open a door leading to a lever. We’ll show you the solution.
Gate to the Otherworld: In which order do I press the switches?
Step 1: Solve the switch puzzle
After Octavius’ short speech, head to the right side of the dome and go down the stairs into the lower level. There, you’ll find a panel with twelve switches, all marked with identical symbols.
Pressing one switch will move several others. You need to activate them in the correct order so that all switches sink into the panel. There are multiple solutions. One of them is the following:
Activate the switches in this order to open the door and access the lever behind it:
- 1, 9, 5, 3, 4, 8, 2, 6, 7
- Note: For clarity, we number the symbols from top to bottom from 1 to 12, as shown in the image below.

Step 2: Insert the batteries
Then head back upstairs to Octavius. Around the large dome, you’ll find batteries, floating cubes. Use the power of the Abyss, L3, and push them into the slots in the surrounding pillars. You need to rotate them so that the four glowing dots face forward. Once they are correctly aligned in front of a pillar, use the Power Gauntlet to slam them into place.
Octavius will then proceed with his experiment, which leads into the boss fight against Tenebrum.
