With Code Vein 2 launching at the end of January 2026, a new chapter and a brand-new adventure begin. We tell you how much playtime you can expect.
Code Vein 2 releases on January 30, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new entry in the Soulslike series builds on the combat system and dark world of its predecessor, but expands them with new mechanics, partner systems, and a standalone story. At this point, the total playtime can only be roughly estimated. Here is an overview.
How Much Playtime You Can Expect in Code Vein 2
There are currently no official statements regarding the length of Code Vein 2. Since Bandai Namco has stated that the game closely follows the scope and structure of the first entry, the estimated playtime can be roughly derived:
- Main story: In the original game, players needed an average of around 26 to 27 hours to complete the main campaign. It is reasonable to assume that Code Vein 2 will offer a similar duration if you focus mainly on the core storyline.
- Main story plus side content: Players who completed side quests, met new characters, and explored the world more thoroughly could expect around 35 hours of playtime in the first game. Code Vein 2 is likely to fall within the same range, especially due to the new partner system with individual abilities and storylines.
- 100 percent completion: Completionists aiming to unlock all weapons, abilities, and endings needed around 63 hours in the previous title. With new weapon types, the Jail system, as well as additional combat styles and partner combinations, Code Vein 2 offers similar content, potentially resulting in a comparable or slightly higher playtime of around 70 hours.
What Makes Code Vein 2 So Extensive?
A key factor influencing playtime is the new partner system: Throughout the game, you recruit various characters who either support you directly in combat or transfer their powers to you through a mechanic known as “Assimilation.” This system allows for new strategies and more dynamic combat encounters.
In addition, there are new weapon types such as “Rune Blades” and “Dual Swords,” an expanded movement system, and new abilities known as “Forma” that can significantly alter your attacks. From a narrative perspective, the game also promises a substantial amount of content: Your journey takes you into the past, where you uncover the origins of the catastrophe that turned the world into a wasteland.
Playtime Depends on Your Playstyle
Whether you focus solely on the main story or aim to experience everything the game has to offer, Code Vein 2 is likely to land solidly in the mid-range of action RPGs in terms of playtime. While an exact duration has yet to be confirmed, players who use the first game as a reference should expect around 25 to 30 hours for the story and up to 60 hours for the full experience. We will update this article as soon as official information on the actual playtime becomes available.
