In Borderlands 4, you once again have access to Respec Stations. Here’s when you can reset your skill points and how it works.
Sometimes you’ll invest points into abilities that don’t work out the way you expected. Luckily, in Borderlands 4 you can completely or partially reset your skill points and specializations. Here’s when that becomes available, how it works, and where to find the Respec Stations you need.
When Can You Reset Skills in Borderlands 4?
You unlock respec fairly early in the game. After the third main mission, you’ll reach the faction city “The Launchpad” and meet the Dropouts. That’s where you’ll find the first Respec Station. From that point on, you can reset skill points and specializations at any time – for a fee.
Where to Find the Skill Tree
The skill tree unlocks at level 2, right after you earn your first skill point.
Through the “Skills” tab in the menu, you can view the three skill trees of your Vault Hunter. Each point unlocks passive stats, abilities, or upgrades for your Action Skill. If you’re not happy with your build, you can reset everything at a Respec Station and reassign the points.
- Note: Respeccing isn’t only useful when you’ve misallocated points, but also later in the game as you prepare for endgame content.

How Does the Respec System Work?
Respeccing always happens at a Respec Station. Here’s how it works:
- Approach a Respec Station – it will activate automatically when you get close.
- Use the interact button (E / X / Square, depending on your platform).
- From the menu, you’ll have several options:
- Respec All: Reset all skill points.
- Respec Tree: Reset only the currently selected skill tree.
- Reset Specialization: A separate option for your specialization.
After you choose, the selected points are refunded and you can redistribute them however you like.
Respec Costs
Respecs aren’t free – they require in-game resources:
- Resetting normal skill points costs money. The price depends on how many points you’ve spent and is calculated as a percentage of your current funds. Resetting just 5 or 6 points often costs under $10,000.
- Resetting specializations costs Eridium, with fixed amounts such as 5,000 Eridium.
The further you progress, the higher the costs become. Still, you can respec as often as you like as long as you have the resources.
- Tip: A quick but often overlooked source of cash is the loot you forgot to pick up. Lost Loot machines in major cities will automatically collect those items for you.
All Known Respec Locations
Respec Stations are located in faction cities and safe houses. On the map, they’re marked with a symbol showing a figure inside a recycling loop.
Some important locations include:
- The Launchpad (starting hub): Unlocked after the mission “Down and Outbound,” in the same building as the Gold Key chest and Lost Loot machine.
- Carcadia (faction city): Located in the service zone near the bank, vendors, and Lost Loot.
- Belton’s Bore (faction city): In the central hub, near other core machines.
- The Lockaway (Dominion region): A safe house with service machines – the Respec Station stands next to the vendors.
- Other spots: Dominion Food Court, Carcadia Restricted Zone, Sumpview Falls in the Witherfield District.
Tips for Using Respec
- Don’t close the menu immediately – take your time assigning points. The respec only finalizes when you exit the station.
- Experiment with different builds. Later in the game, it’s worth tailoring your skills to specific enemies or boss fights.
- To avoid spending money constantly, try out build planners beforehand.
- Since there’s no limit, you can respec as often as you want, as long as you have the resources.
