When it comes to Borderlands 4, nothing beats the thrill of finding a shiny orange drop. Veterans know the deal: these weapons are rare, incredibly strong, and often come with unique gimmicks. But where exactly do they show up? We’ve put together the most common farming spots and methods so you can gear up with legendary loot – without needing a dedicated guide for every single weapon.

Vending Machines and the Black Market

It may sound odd, but legendary weapons in Borderlands 4 can sometimes be bought outright. Save up enough in-game cash, because vending machines occasionally offer a Legendary as part of their daily deals. The higher your character level, the more likely you’ll see one. On top of that, Maurice’s Black Market rotates its location every week and always stocks two legendary weapons – all you have to do is track it down on the map.

Golden Keys and Shift Codes

A Borderlands classic: Shift Codes unlock golden keys, which in turn open golden chests found in the major hub cities. These often contain legendary weapons and gear. Check out our guide with all currently active Shift Codes for skins, keys, and more.

Boss and Mission Rewards

Plenty of legendary weapons drop directly from bosses, often with increased chances for specific items. Side missions can also end with a legendary reward. Keep an eye out for side quests offered in faction cities or after major story beats. To check if a mission offers a weapon reward, simply hover over it with your cursor or controller and review the info/reward box.

And here’s a tip: bosses can be farmed even after the main campaign. Once you unlock Moxxi’s Fatale Encore, you can spend some Eridium to re-fight earlier bosses.

Endgame Content and Wildcard Missions

Finishing the main story is just the beginning. In the endgame, repeatable Wildcard Missions guarantee at least one legendary as a final reward. On top of that, raising your world tier (“Ultimate Vault Hunter” level) massively boosts the quality of all loot drops. Be warned though: enemies scale up as well, making fights significantly tougher.

Rift Champions and Optional Vaults

Throughout your journey, you’ll run into domes guarded by Rift Champions. These mini-bosses are worth the fight, as they also have a chance to drop legendaries. Another great source of loot: chamber key fragments. Collect enough of them, and you’ll unlock secret vaults filled with valuable rewards.

Quick Overview

You can find legendary weapons in Borderlands 4 by:

  • Buying them from vending machines or the Black Market,
  • Farming bosses or completing missions with legendary rewards,
  • Unlocking golden chests via Shift Codes.

The rest, as always, comes down to pure RNG. But the more you play, the more likely you are to see your inventory fill up with rare treasures.
