In this section of Life is Strange: Reunion, you follow Max as she breaks into the Fremont House basement. What starts as a stealthy investigation quickly turns into a race against time, as the area is rigged with explosives. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to defuse the charges and make it out safely.

The Path into the Basement

Before entering, take a moment to explore the outside area. Inside the truck, on the passenger seat, you’ll find a map revealing that Owen plans to demolish the entire neighborhood, including all surrounding buildings, to expand the university. Right next to the truck is a stack of firewood, already hinting at the disaster that will unfold just days later. Take your time to inspect everything carefully, as these details provide important context for the story.

Find the entrance and enter the basement

Once you’ve explored the area, head toward the stairs. You’ll notice fresh footprints that clearly haven’t been there long. Further back, you’ll come across a boarded-up window, where someone has already attempted to break in, but failed. Moments later, green sparks burst from the window, guiding you toward a wooden hatch in the ground on the left side of the house. This leads you directly into the basement. At this point, the game briefly switches to a longer segment with Chloe in the Snapping Turtle.

Encounter with Loretta in the basement

When you return to Max, she is already inside the basement. Your objective now is to gather information. However, you’ll soon run into Loretta, who is also investigating the place with her camera.

You’ll try to convince her to leave and are given two options: offer a compromise or threaten her. The compromise is enough here. Max promises to provide Loretta with more official information later. Loretta agrees, but suddenly the door is locked and voices can be heard outside.

Block the door and rewind time

You now need to find a way to block the door from the inside. A broom stands right next to it and seems like a quick solution. It works briefly, but is soon broken by someone on the other side, exposing you.

This is where Max’s time power comes into play. Rewind time and head to the area where Loretta was standing. There, you’ll find a crowbar, which is strong enough to keep the door shut. If you’re too slow, simply rewind again, the crowbar will remain in your inventory. Then return to the door and block it properly. The people outside assume no one is inside.

Disable the four explosives

The men outside prepare to detonate the house, so you must act quickly. Grab the pliers from the shelf and cut a total of four wires connected to the explosives. If needed, rewind time to give yourself more room for error.

There is one crucial detail to keep in mind when defusing the charges. If you cut the explosive near the metal shelf too early, it will fall and block access to another charge. That’s why this one should be handled last, after you’ve disabled the others.

If time runs short, simply rewind and try again. Once you’ve successfully disabled all four explosives, you prevent the detonation and can escape the basement safely.
