In Chapter 3 of the main quest in Crimson Desert, you’re asked to return to the Greymane Camp and start the “Howling Hill” expansion quest. If you follow the quest marker, you’ll end up standing in front of a large tree in your camp with nothing happening. Don’t worry, you’re not the only one confused here. We’ll explain how to start the quest and what you need to do.

How to Start the “Howling Hill” Expansion Quest

The “Howling Hill” expansion quest doesn’t start automatically like other missions, nor is it triggered by talking to an NPC. You also can’t simply select it from your journal. Instead, you need to open the map, switch the icon filter at the bottom to “Factions,” and then move your cursor over the camp icon next to the Greymane emblem.

You can now press the Triangle or Y button on your controller to “inspect” the selected area, which opens a new menu with information about Howling Hill. Sometimes you may see the message “Function not available.” In that case, simply close and reopen the map a few times until the menu becomes accessible.

  • Note: You can also open the faction menu for any other faction by repeating this process on a different faction icon on the map.

In the faction menu, you can view your relationships with other factions, see which freeblades are available to you, and check the current reputation of the Greymanes with other factions.

To start the mission, switch to the “Mission List” tab in the faction menu and select “Expand the Camp at Howling Hill.”

How to Complete the “Howling Hill” Expansion Quest

To complete the quest, you need at least two Comrades. Over the course of the main quest, you should have already recruited Luke and Ronald as suitable craftsmen.

Select them and press Space or the A or X button on your controller to assign each Comrade to the mission. Then press F or the X or Square button to send them out.

After 17 in-game hours, the mission will be completed, you’ll receive 500 EXP, and the camp will be expanded. Either rest at a campfire and wait, or complete a few side quests in the meantime.
