The Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil Requiem features several small puzzles to solve. One of them revolves around a briefcase in the S.T.A.R.S. office that can only be opened with a code. The lock accepts three letters—but that’s all the information you get at first. We’ll show you how to solve this small scavenger hunt through the RPD.

Where to Find the Briefcase

The S.T.A.R.S. office is located on the second floor in the western wing of the RPD. Inside, you’ll find several desks and filing cabinets. In the northernmost corner, you’ll see a locker containing the locked briefcase. Remember this spot—you’ll need to return here later.

How to Find the Code for the Briefcase in Resident Evil Requiem

Step 1: Read Barry’s To-Do List

The first clue is right there in the room. On the left desk, you’ll find a handwritten note from Barry Burton titled “Barry’s To-Do List”—the second part of Barry’s scavenger hunt.

Among the everyday tasks is one crucial line: “Find that missing library book.” A book is missing from the library—and that’s exactly where your next stop will be.

Step 2: Retrieve the Library Card from Wesker’s Desk

Now head into the small office separated from the main S.T.A.R.S. room. Inside, you’ll find Albert Wesker’s desk. Open the drawer. Inside is the “Library Card.” The card states that Captain A. Wesker checked out the book “Medicinal Benefits of Herbs.” Now you know exactly what to look for.

Step 3: Find the Book in the Library

Leave the office and go left into the library. Take the stairs up to the second level. Follow the walkway to the left and cross the platform. Near a locked wooden door, you’ll find the target green-covered book sitting on a shelf.

  • Important: The book only becomes interactive after you’ve read the library card. If you can’t pick it up, double-check that you actually had the card in your inventory and examined it.

Step 4: Find the Briefcase Code

Open the book in your inventory. Inside, you’ll find a photo of Rebecca Chambers wearing a basketball outfit. Flip the photo over and examine the back. It reads: “Rising Rookie Rebecca.”

Take the first letter of each word, and you get the briefcase code: R – R – R

Return to the S.T.A.R.S. office. Interact with the briefcase and set the letters to RRR. Confirm the input—and the briefcase will open.

Your Reward: The Power Shades Charm

Inside the briefcase, you’ll find the Power Shades Charm. This charm is exclusive to the Requiem pistol and grants two powerful effects:

  • Bullets gain unlimited piercing power. This means they pass through multiple enemies instead of stopping at the first target. In tight corridors packed with zombies, this becomes extremely useful.
  • The final bullet in the revolver cylinder is significantly strengthened. If you play tactically, you can nearly empty the revolver and unleash maximum damage with the last round.

Tips If Certain Steps Don’t Work

Sometimes parts of the puzzle may not trigger properly at certain points. Here are a few possible fixes:

  • If the library card doesn’t appear in Wesker’s desk, interact with the drawer again or try after briefly leaving the area.
  • If the book doesn’t respond even though you have the card, briefly leave the library and come back.
  • If the briefcase won’t accept the code, make sure you’ve read all relevant files—especially Barry’s To-Do List and the library card. If the case still doesn’t react, save the game and reload. In rare cases, leaving the area and returning to the office can also fix the issue.
  • And yes—you can technically enter RRR immediately without completing the scavenger hunt. The game won’t block you. However, you’ll miss the entire backstory and the charming Easter egg.
