Resident Evil: Requiem marks the ninth main entry in the iconic horror series. But how many hours of gameplay can you expect from the new installment?
Resident Evil: Requiem launches on February 27, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. While details about the story and setting are still under wraps, many fans are already wondering about the game’s overall length. Capcom has yet to provide official figures, but early insider reports offer some solid clues about the expected playtime.
Resident Evil: Requiem Playtime – How Many Hours to Expect
Statements from the producer, director and several insiders all point in a similar direction. Based on current information, Requiem is expected to fall somewhere between Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 in terms of scope.
- Main story: According to current estimates, the campaign is expected to last around 10 to 16 hours. Several sources consider 12 to 14 hours a realistic range. That would make Requiem longer than Resident Evil Village, which took roughly 10 hours on a first playthrough, but slightly shorter than Resident Evil 4, which averages around 16 hours.
- 100 percent completion: Players who aim to uncover every secret, complete optional content and fully explore the game world could spend between 30 and 40 hours in total. However, this figure is also based on estimates rather than confirmed data.
Once the game has been released, we will update this article with confirmed playtime details.
What Do Developers and Insiders Say?
An early hint came from producer Masato Kumazawa. In interviews, he suggested that the overall scope could be comparable to the Resident Evil 4 remake. This caught attention, as Resident Evil 4 is considered one of the more expansive entries in the series.
Later on, the game’s director clarified that playtime is difficult to pin down. Factors such as playstyle, puzzle-solving pace and the level of exploration can significantly influence how long it takes to finish the game.
Additional estimates come from well-known insider Dusk Golem. He expects Requiem to be longer than Village, but slightly shorter than Resident Evil 4. This aligns with the frequently mentioned estimate of around 12 to 14 hours for the main story. Important to note: these figures are projections, not official numbers.
How It Compares to Previous Entries
Looking at the playtimes of recent mainline entries provides a clearer picture of where Resident Evil Requiem might land. Resident Evil 2 averaged around nine hours, while Resident Evil 3 came in at roughly six. Resident Evil 7 typically took between nine and ten hours, and Resident Evil Village about ten. In contrast, Resident Evil 4 was significantly longer at around 16 hours.
If current estimates prove accurate, Capcom appears to be aiming for a well-balanced length this time. Not a short experience you finish in a weekend, but not a massive time sink either. Instead, the studio seems to be slightly increasing the playtime while maintaining the tight pacing and dense atmosphere the series is known for.
