In Heartopia, you can easily fill your home with animal companions. Cats and dogs not only add atmosphere, but also introduce new gameplay mechanics, interactions, and small everyday moments. Here you’ll learn how to unlock cats and dogs, what they need, and what you should keep in mind.

Requirements for Cats and Dogs

Before you can take care of pets, you need to meet a few basic requirements. The Cooking, Birdwatching, and Insect Catching hobbies must be unlocked. In addition, you need Builder Level 12. Once that’s done, Mrs. Joan will contact you with the mission “Preparation for Learning a Hobby”. Make sure you have a hobby ticket in stock, otherwise you won’t be able to learn a new hobby.

  • Tip: If you don’t have a hobby ticket, simply complete a few quests in the city.

Heartopia: Unlocking Cat Care

Go to Mrs. Joan at the counter and redeem a hobby license there. This officially commits you to cat care. This step is important, because without learning cat care, you won’t be able to adopt dogs later on. She will first explain some basics about care and food.

After that, you can choose a cat. By clicking on the animal, its character traits will be displayed. From clumsy to calm, energetic, or slow, everything is possible. After adoption, your cat will appear directly at your home.

Getting to Know Your Cat

Using your watch, you can access your pets at any time. There you can see how your cat is doing, what breed it is, and which personality traits it has. To pet your cat, simply approach it and interact with it.

When it comes to feeding, it’s all about trial and error. Not every cat likes every type of food. Cat food or different kinds of fish restore energy and help your cat level up. As the level increases, you unlock additional interactions.

Interaction, Gifts, and Memories

You can give your cat gifts, take photos as keepsakes, and view them later in your album. Small extras like hats or other clothing items are also possible and add more individuality.

Before heading home, you should talk to Mrs. Joan once more. She will give you some cat food. Once you’re back home, pet your cat to strengthen your bond.

  • Note: If your cat looks at you and meows, it wants to interact with you, for example by playing.

Heartopia: Unlocking and Adopting Dogs

Dogs only become available once you have learned cat care. After that, you can also choose a dog. New dogs are available for adoption every day. If there isn’t one you like today, simply check back the next day.

Training and Spending Time With Dogs

Training works similarly to cats, but is a bit more active with dogs. You can practice tricks deliberately and react directly. If your dog does something right, confirm it with the checkmark. If it does something else instead, you can clearly reject it by pressing “X”. Each training session makes your dog better. In addition, you can go for walks with your dog and spend time together.

Tips for Everyday Life With Pets

Take your time to observe your animals, as preferences and behavior differ. Regular care and interaction pay off, as higher levels unlock more options. Consistently collect resources like hairballs (for clothing) and feel free to check in daily, especially with dogs, as the selection changes regularly.
