For handheld adventurers

Hell is Us is getting Steam Deck optimization and will be available on GeForce Now

A man in a rain poncho, holding a glowing sword, stands in front of a giant Steam Deck.

At launch, Hell is Us will release on PC, PS5, Xbox, and GeForce Now—and it might soon run on Valve’s handheld as well. A dedicated optimization is already in the works.

The action-adventure Hell is Us is set to release on September 4, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players who grab the Deluxe Edition will get 72-hour early access. Developer Rogue Factor is also working on a Steam Deck optimization—the studio confirmed this in an interview with us at Gamescom 2025.

Hell is Us is coming to the Steam Deck

Game designer Simon Girard confirmed in our interview that Rogue Factor wants to make Hell is Us fully playable on Valve’s handheld: “Yes, Steam Deck optimization is something we’re currently working on,” Girard said. It’s still unclear if the game will receive Valve’s official Steam Deck Verified status or if handheld performance will already be stable at launch.

What is clear, though, is that the team is actively working on a handheld-friendly version. Girard also stressed that the game is technically stable across all platforms. During the Gamescom demo, Hell is Us ran at max settings in native 4K on an AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT—with anti-aliasing enabled—and left a strong impression.

Hell is Us also coming to GeForce Now at launch

Hell is Us has been in development for over five years, Girard told us. Work began before the pandemic with a team of about 35 people and later expanded to around 55. The game is built on Unreal Engine 5, with a focus on balancing visual fidelity and performance, according to Girard.

The PC version supports the latest AMD tech, including FSR 4 on Radeon RX 9000 GPUs and HDR10+ GAMING for dynamic tone mapping on compatible monitors. Nvidia’s cloud service GeForce Now will also be supported at launch.

Whether the Steam Deck can handle it will likely depend on graphics settings. What’s certain is that an official optimization for Valve’s handheld is in progress—so you’ll be able to dive into Rémi’s dark world even on the go.
