During Anca’s quest “Stronger Than Achilles,” you’ll have to decide who gets to use the Font of Life. I’ll show you the consequences of each choice.
In The Blood of Dawnwalker, you’ll repeatedly face decisions whose consequences aren’t immediately obvious. One of them comes near the end of Anca’s personal questline. Together with Coen, she reaches the mysterious Font of Life, but its power is only enough for one person.
You can let Coen use the Font, allow Anca to use it, or destroy it entirely. Your choice has both gameplay and narrative consequences.
- Spoiler warning: The following section explains the direct consequences of this decision and also reveals what happens to Anca afterward.
What Happens if You Let Anca Use the Font of Life?
If you let Anca use the Font of Life, she is freed from the consequences of her past and her witchcraft. However, she also loses her abilities as a witch.
For Anca herself, this is the most positive outcome. She becomes noticeably more optimistic afterward and, for the first time, sees the possibility of living a normal life. Her eventual fate also turns out more favorably as a result.
However, Coen doesn’t receive any direct gameplay bonus from this choice. You’ll permanently miss out on the Font’s special Perk.

What Happens if Coen Uses the Font of Life?
If you choose Coen, the corresponding “Font of Life” Perk is unlocked in the Sorcery skill tree.
This causes Coen’s human health to regenerate automatically during the day. It’s especially useful during longer daytime battles, since you’ll need fewer healing items.
Anca accepts your decision. However, she remains a witch and isn’t freed from what she considers a curse. As a result, her search for another way out continues.

Does Choosing Coen Affect the Romance With Anca?
No. You can still romance Anca even if Coen uses the Font himself. Other dialogue choices and decisions during her questline are what determine the romance.
What Happens if You Destroy the Font of Life?
There’s also a third option: You can choose neither Coen nor Anca and destroy the Font of Life instead.
If you do, Coen won’t get his regeneration Perk, and Anca won’t get the chance to free herself from her witchcraft. Instead, you can receive the legendary Ancient Greaves as a reward.
Compared with the other choices, however, this option is only worth considering in certain situations. Gear can be replaced, while the other two decisions have unique consequences.
Coen or Anca: Which Choice Is Best?
There is no objectively perfect choice. I would let Anca use the Font of Life, as this has the biggest impact on her personal story, while Coen’s regeneration bonus is useful but by no means essential. If you want to optimize your build, however, you can safely choose Coen. Doing so also won’t lock you out of the romance with Anca.
- Who should choose Coen? If you want to make your character as effective as possible, use the Font yourself.
- Who should choose Anca? If you mainly make decisions based on their narrative consequences or care about Anca’s story, you should let her use the Font. The Perk bonus isn’t significant enough to be essential, and you can easily do without the piece of gear as well.
