The Blood of Dawnwalker continues to improve. Patch 1.0.4 fixes a long list of smaller issues, and some of them are bound to get a laugh from the community.
The vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker sold more than one million copies in a very short time, and developer Rebel Wolves is already hiring new staff for a sequel. For now, though, it’s time to polish the current game, even though I encountered hardly any technical issues during my review. Version 1.0.4 has now arrived, and the patch stands out almost as much for the way its notes are worded as for the fixes themselves.
Blood of Dawnwalker: What’s Included in Hotfix 1.0.4
Some of the more bizarre bug fixes are particularly entertaining. Dead NPCs can no longer start conversations — apparently, deceased characters could previously still initiate chats with protagonist Coen. Rebel Wolves also fixed an issue that caused torches to grow uncontrollably, with light sources seemingly expanding farther and farther throughout the game.

Another especially charming note says Rebel Wolves “no longer uses that one red pipe asset we weren’t supposed to use.” It refers to a placeholder from development that accidentally made its way into the finished game’s prologue: a bright red pipe with the unmistakable words “DO NOT USE” plastered across it, sitting right in the middle of the silver mines.
Here are the most important fixes according to the official patch notes:
- Stability: Several general improvements to game stability
- Quests: Numerous blockers and soft locks have been fixed, including issues in the quests “Deep Down,” “On the Run,” “Hive and Seek,” and “The Heart Wants What It Wants”
- Gameplay: Coen could become stuck inside certain houses — that issue has now been fixed; a tutorial bug triggered by using “Voracious Bite” too quickly has also been resolved
- Save issue: A bug that prevented players from saving the game has been fixed
- Steam only: Controllers running outdated GameInput software could cause FPS drops — this has now been fixed
- Graphics: Coen and Iorgu now actually drink from their cups on lower graphics settings
- Audio: Music that stopped playing during the prologue now continues correctly
From a purely technical standpoint, Hotfix 1.0.4 is necessary but fairly modest. The quest fixes matter, as several missions could previously lead to dead ends or become impossible to complete. The save bug was especially frustrating for affected players.
With 1.0.4, Rebel Wolves has shown that the studio is responding quickly to player feedback and isn’t ignoring the smaller oddities either. We’ll have to wait and see what direction future patches take. Hopefully, they’ll come with patch notes just as refreshingly candid as these.
