Mihai’s legendary two-handed sword is the best sword in The Blood of Dawnwalker. I’ll show you how to complete the associated quest, “Forge It Anew.”
Relatively early in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you’ll unlock the quest “Forge It Anew,” which rewards you with the best sword in the game. The quest consists of two objectives: Find the three sword shards and find the Uriashi blacksmith. However, there are no quest markers, so you’ll have to search for clues yourself. I’ll help you track them down.
Preparation: What You Need to Do Before You Start
Before you even have a chance of getting the best sword in The Blood of Dawnwalker, you first need to complete the quest “A Monk and a Saint,” which follows Anca’s quest “Echoes of Silenced Bells” (Guide). The confused monk Albertus sends you to Svartrau Cathedral, where you’ll run into an old acquaintance.
Afterward, talk to the deacon and help him find the steward. The search eventually leads you into the catacombs, where you’ll find Mihai’s Journal and the Worn Sheath in his grave after a short boss fight. This also unlocks the quest “Forge It Anew.”
- Tip: You’ll have to cover a lot of ground during this quest. In this guide, I’ll show you how to travel through the world of Blood of Dawnwalker at lightning speed even without a mount.
Find the First Shard: Maragir Wealds
Read Mihai’s Journal and you’ll find a clue pointing to where the first shard is hidden: the Maragir Wealds. Travel there and head southeast along the rock wall from the Bear’s Maw Shrine until Coen comments on a hidden side path that isn’t marked on the map.
Follow the path until you discover an abandoned camp. From there, follow the tracks to the cave entrance. Inside, you’ll run into a few Kobolds. Take them out and look around. The first shard of Mihai’s Sword is lying on the ruined shrine.
Especially important for the rest of your search: One of the murals depicts a map. Inspect it and Coen will identify two more areas – the remaining shards are hidden somewhere in those locations.
Find the Second Shard: Tantari
The second cave is located near St. Tyna’s Grove, east of the monastery you visited with Anca during the quest Echoes of Silenced Bells.
- Important: Travel to the Crossroads Inn Shrine and visit Anca there. She’ll give you a mysterious letter containing a clue to the location of the Uriashi blacksmith and a blueprint for a legendary set of armor.
From the inn, head roughly 300 meters southeast. Follow the path into the mountains (take the left fork) until you reach the Tantari Woods and Coen spots the Kobold nest after passing through a narrow rocky passage.
Inside the cave, you’ll find several corpses. One of them is carrying a note with another clue to the Uriashi blacksmith’s location. At the altar, you’ll discover that the shard is missing. Once you’ve inspected all the clues, you’ll learn that soldiers already looted the cave and took everything back to their outpost.
Next Stop: Tantari. Travel to the Drunken Bear Inn and head west from there into the swamps.
Be careful: The camp is heavily guarded, so prepare for a tough fight. Once you’ve taken out all the soldiers, enter the large red tent and read Xanthe’s note. The second shard is lying next to it.
Find the Third Shard: Rockfalls
You’ll find the third and final shard in Rockfalls, more specifically near Shrike’s Crag. The old fort where Lacra can be found is just around the corner as well. Travel to the Boarback Trail fast-travel point. Head north and keep left after the fork in the road.
Cross the woods and head up the hill until a group of Kobolds greets you. At night, Coen’s vampire abilities let you simply climb up the rock wall, while during the day you’ll have to go around it. Follow the rock wall on the right until you find a way up and reach the cave.
Inside, a tough fight against a mutated giant Kobold awaits you, so don’t go in unprepared. Once you’ve defeated it, grab the final shard from the nest.
Find the Blacksmith and Temper the Sword
Finally, you still need to find the blacksmith. If you piece together the clues you’ve collected so far, you can narrow down her location to Briar Sloughs. You’ll find her on the edge of a secluded patch of woodland in the southeastern part of the area.
Start at Stelian’s Redoubt, cross Briar Slough Hillock, and continue northwest until you eventually reach the clearing. Hand her the three shards and she’ll forge Mihai’s Sword.
However, for the legendary two-handed sword to truly become the best weapon in the game, you still have one final task to complete: You need to temper it. The blacksmith sends you up the hill, where a large cave awaits at the top.
Inside, you’ll first fight a few undead enemies before facing the boss “Echoing Anger.” Once again, you’ll have to deal with a whole group of supernatural enemies that can put up quite a fight.
Afterward, hold the sword inside the glowing red orb and you’re finally done: The legendary two-handed sword “Imbued Sword of St. Mihai” is now in your inventory.
