If you want to mine larger ore deposits in Subnautica 2, there’s almost no way around the Sonic Resonator. We’ll show you where to find it.
In Subnautica 2, you’ll quickly notice that some important resources stay out of reach with your starting tools. At first, you simply can’t mine larger ore deposits, and that’s exactly where the Sonic Resonator comes in. You can unlock the blueprint fairly early if you know where to look. The game only hints at it in passing, so many players completely miss it during their first exploration runs. We’ll show you where the tool is and save you a long search.

Sonic Resonator location: Where to find the useful tool
You’ll find the blueprint close to your starting pod. From there, swim north to northwest, roughly along heading 345. After around 170 meters, you’ll come across a small cave entrance lit by a bluish glow. That’s where you need to go.
Inside the cave, the Sonic Resonator is lying on a table and can be scanned immediately. You can also enter through the larger cave opening straight ahead, but the glowing entrance is much easier to spot. Especially early on, it’s easy to swim right past the area otherwise.
Crafting the Sonic Resonator
Once you’ve unlocked the blueprint, you can craft the Sonic Resonator in Subnautica 2. However, you’ll need a Fabricator inside your base first. The required materials are manageable, but you’ll still need to gather a few resources:
- 1 Basic Battery
- 2 Titanium Ingots
- 2 Lead
- 1 Wiring Kit
You can craft the battery using copper and an Acidic Brine Plant from the pink coral areas. Lead appears as loose chunks, often near larger wrecks. For the Wiring Kit, you’ll also need silver, which is usually found inside caves. Once you have the Sonic Resonator, you’ll finally be able to mine resources from your Metal Farm and gather ore and other materials much faster.
