You won’t get the Repair Tool right at the beginning of Subnautica 2. In this guide, we’ll show you where to find and unlock it.
If you want to repair damaged devices, vehicles or systems in Subnautica 2, you’ll eventually need the Repair Tool. It quickly becomes one of the most important items in the game. Without it, certain areas remain inaccessible and you’ll constantly have to deal with broken equipment. We’ll show you where to find and unlock it.

How to Unlock the Repair Tool in Subnautica 2
You unlock the Repair Tool blueprint by scanning fragments hidden inside abandoned facilities and wrecks. Especially around early research stations, you should carefully search every room and scan as much as possible, since this is also where new Bio-Mods can be unlocked. Once you’ve scanned enough fragments, the Repair Tool blueprint automatically becomes available in the Fabricator and can be crafted with the required materials. Later in the game, especially once vehicles come into play, the Repair Tool becomes almost essential. In total, you’ll need three scans for the Repair Tool. Here’s where to find them.
Finding the First Repair Tool Fragment
From your starting lifepod, swim northeast. After around 370 meters, you’ll pass the first large plant and Camp One. Behind it, you’ll eventually discover the Landing Bay wreck. Beneath the wreck, you can enter through an open cargo hatch. The first Repair Tool fragment lies directly in front of a locked door. Keep an eye on your oxygen supply in this area because it’s easy to get lost inside the narrow corridors.
Finding the Second Repair Tool Fragment
The second signal leads you southeast from the lifepod toward direction “150”. After around 200 meters, you’ll encounter several large stone pillars covered with lights. Dive into the cave next to the pillar. Inside, you’ll find a small base where the Repair Tool fragment is sitting directly on a table.
Finding the Third Repair Tool Fragment
Leave the cave and continue southwest from Chap’s Base. Eventually, you’ll reach a cliffside wreck known as the Cafeteria wreck. The entrance is located at the back of the structure. Swim inside, immediately turn left and dive through the hole in the floor. There, you’ll not only find a surprisingly good cat poster to scan, but also the final Repair Tool fragment resting on a bench.
These Materials Are Needed for the Repair Tool
Once the blueprint is unlocked, you’ll need the following materials:
- Lithium
- Crystal Sulfur
- Wiring Kit
Lithium will likely become your biggest problem early on. In Subnautica 2, the resource is usually found deeper inside caves or along rocky underwater cliffs. If you’ve mostly stayed close to the lifepod so far, this will probably be the first time you really need to venture farther into the ocean.
- My tip: Always bring enough food and water for longer exploration trips. If you need to dive deeper, extra oxygen tanks and special oxygen plants can save your life. Our tips will make the start much easier.
Crystal Sulfur, on the other hand, is mainly found in hot or volcanic regions. Be careful while exploring those areas because not only will you encounter aggressive creatures, the environment itself can become dangerously hot.
