A new chapter in the popular action-adventure series begins with Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. But if you have your eye on the exclusive Collector’s Edition, you’ll want to read the fine print — because one important detail could lead to an unpleasant surprise.
The prequel Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes place 15 years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem, opening a new chapter in the popular series. Publisher Focus Entertainment is also taking a new approach with the Collector’s Edition, which is no longer tied to a specific platform. That’s because the collector’s box contains neither a game disc nor even a download code.
What editions are available?
At launch, Focus is offering a Standard Edition and an “Exclusive Collector Box” (see the next section) for Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy. The Standard Edition is available both physically and digitally and costs $50 on PC or $60 on consoles, depending on the platform. The game will also be included with Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost from release day.
Players who preorder on any platform will receive the “Heritage DLC Pack.” It includes a weapon (“Hero’s Blade”), a charm that provides passive bonuses by enhancing the effects of other charms, and a digital art book. Focus is not offering early access, regardless of which edition you buy.
The Exclusive Collector Box: Plenty for collectors, but no game
Focus commissioned Neamedia Icons to produce the “Exclusive Collector Box,” which was created in collaboration with the developers at Asobo Studio. It costs $149. At first glance, that seems relatively affordable for a collector’s edition — but you should definitely take a closer look before placing your order.
Here’s what you get: a hand-painted Sophia and Theseus collectible figurine (23 cm / about 9 inches tall and individually numbered), an exclusive SteelBook, three A5 art prints, an adjustable metal ring replica, and an unspecified preorder bonus. Presumably, the latter is the “Heritage DLC Pack” that also comes with preorders of the Standard Edition.
What you don’t get — and this is something you absolutely need to know: the game itself. Anyone who doesn’t read the description carefully could spend almost $150 and still have nothing to play on their console or PC. The disclaimer is there on the product page, but it’s easy to miss among the figurine descriptions and shipping information. There’s another detail that should raise an eyebrow: The box is not expected to ship until late 2026, several months after Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy launches on August 27. That’s another important detail to know before ordering.

Is the Collector Box worth it?
The hand-painted figurine looks impressively high-quality in the promotional images released so far and should make a great addition to the shelves of collectors and fans of the series. But $149 for merchandise alone, with no game included and delivery not expected until late 2026, makes the overall package less appealing.
My recommendation: If you already subscribe to Game Pass, you can play Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy from launch day at no additional cost. If you’re mainly interested in a high-quality collector’s set, that keeps your total purchase price at $149. And if you still want a physical copy of the game, you can always pick one up separately later.
