Phasmophobia is heading for a bigger shake-up at the beginning of May. On May 5, 2026, the co-op horror game will receive a Player Character Update that changes more than just your appearance. At the same time, Twitch Drops will go live, giving you a first cosmetic reward right at launch. If you regularly go ghost hunting, it’s worth taking part.

In Phasmophobia, you’ve barely been able to customize your character so far. That’s about to change. With the update, a dedicated customization shop is being added to the lobby. There, you can choose from twelve characters and tweak details like clothing or hair color.
That might sound like a standard feature at first, but it has a noticeable impact in-game. Especially in full lobbies, it becomes much easier to tell who’s currently with you. If you often play with different groups, this should cut down on confusion quite a bit.
The selection at launch is already solid, but it won’t stop there. The developers have announced that new items will be added regularly. Some of them will be distributed through events like Twitch Drops, letting you unlock exclusive outfits with a bit of time invested.
New animations and noticeable gameplay changes
The update doesn’t stop at visuals. In Phasmophobia, you’ll also get new animations for your characters. Movements feel less stiff and fit the atmosphere of an investigation much better.
The more interesting changes affect how missions play out. The familiar Death Room is being removed entirely. If a ghost catches you, things will play out differently than before. The developers will only reveal the exact implementation at release.
Twitch Drops at launch: How to grab your first item
With the update’s release, Phasmophobia will feature Twitch Drops right away. From May 5 to May 11, 2026, you can unlock an exclusive clothing item, including a High Priestess-style T-shirt.
To receive the reward, you’ll need to link your Twitch account with Phasmophobia and watch streams with Drops enabled. Many creators will be covering the event, so you’ll have plenty of options. The effort is minimal, and items like these often don’t return later. So if you’re already running streams in the background, you might as well grab it.
