A new mod finally lets you enter the Chamber of Secrets in Hogwarts Legacy. Here’s how it works.
A free mod adds the Chamber of Secrets to Hogwarts Legacy as a fully playable dungeon. You can explore familiar locations from the movies, solve puzzles, and face new enemies. We’ll show you what the mod is called, where to download it, and which quest you need to complete first.
What Is the Chamber of Secrets Mod Called?
The mod is called “The Chamber Of Secrets.” It was created by several modders working together and is available for free. You can find it on CurseForge. The download is around 390 MB, and no additional mods are currently required.
Keep in mind that Hogwarts Legacy mods are only available on PC. That means you can’t enter the Chamber of Secrets on PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.
How to Install The Chamber Of Secrets
Hogwarts Legacy now supports mods directly through the main menu on PC, so you don’t need to manually move the file into the game’s installation folder.
Here’s what you need to do.
- Launch Hogwarts Legacy.
- Open Play Mods from the main menu.
- Search for The Chamber Of Secrets.
- Open the mod and install it.
- Then switch to your enabled mods.
- Select the save file you want to use.
- Enable The Chamber Of Secrets for that save file.
- Confirm the changes and start the game.
When you use mods for the first time, Hogwarts Legacy will normally create a separate version of your save file. Your original save should therefore remain intact. Even so, it’s a good idea to create a manual save before entering the dungeon.
Which Quest Do You Need to Complete First?
Before you can open the Chamber of Secrets, you need to complete the side quest “In the Shadow of the Study.” The quest is part of Sebastian Sallow’s storyline and takes you into Salazar Slytherin’s Scriptorium together with Sebastian and Ominis.
You don’t necessarily have to learn the Crucio curse during the quest. The only thing that matters is completing the quest in full. Before “In the Shadow of the Study” becomes available, you’ll need to finish several main quests and Sebastian assignments, including the following.
- In the Shadow of the Undercroft
- In the Shadow of the Estate
- In the Shadow of the Bloodline
- The High Keep
“In the Shadow of the Study” becomes available at around Level 16. After completing the prerequisites, you may need to wait for a while or change the time of day using the map. Also keep an eye out for new Owl Post from Sebastian.
Where Is the Chamber of Secrets?
The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is located inside a girls’ bathroom near the Slytherin common room. First, fast travel to the “Lower Grand Staircase” Floo Flame, which you’ll find in the “Grand Staircase” section of the map.
From there, continue down the stairs. Head toward the Slytherin common room, then turn right. Follow the hallway until you reach the two bathrooms. The entrance is inside the girls’ bathroom on the right.

Head to the circle of sinks in the center of the room. One of the faucets has a small snake symbol on it. If the mod is enabled and you’ve completed “In the Shadow of the Study,” an interaction prompt will appear at this faucet. Use it to start the new quest and open the entrance to the Chamber.
What Should You Do if the Entrance Won’t Open?
If no interaction prompt appears at the faucet, first make sure the mod is actually enabled for your current save file. You should also check that you fully completed the required quest. Simply entering the Scriptorium may not be enough.
The developers have also included an alternate way inside. Go to the back-left stall in the girls’ bathroom, where you’ll find a hidden option that lets you open the entrance anyway. This is primarily intended as a fallback in case the quest check doesn’t work correctly.
What Awaits You in the Chamber of Secrets?
The mod doesn’t simply recreate the familiar chamber from the movies. Instead, it adds a much larger dungeon beneath Hogwarts. You’ll explore flooded corridors, old sewer tunnels, and underground caves, along with abandoned areas, creature nests, and rooms tied to Salazar Slytherin’s past.
The mod also features combat and smaller narrative elements. Notes and environmental details reveal more about the Chamber and its history. The dungeon is aimed more at higher-level characters, so you should unlock several powerful spells and bring plenty of Wiggenweld Potions before heading inside.
Can You Enter the Chamber Without the Mod?
In the standard version of Hogwarts Legacy, you can find both the girls’ bathroom and the faucet with the snake symbol. Using Revelio also reveals a related Field Guide Page. However, you can’t actually open the entrance in the base game. The location is simply an Easter egg for fans of the books and movies. Only The Chamber Of Secrets mod turns the Chamber into a fully explorable area.
