To join the Old Camp in Gothic 1 Remake, you need to reach at least level 5 and earn the trust of influential figures. You gain that trust by completing quests, each of which results in a recommendation to Diego. Once you have collected enough votes, the way into the castle opens up. In this walkthrough, we’ll show you how to convince the Shadows of your abilities. It’s best to tackle the quests in the order listed here, since we’ve arranged them from easiest to hardest.

Every Quest Required to Join the Old Camp in Gothic 1 Remake

Get Whistler’s Sword in the Old Camp

The easiest task is helping Whistler. He gives you 100 ore and sends you to Fisk, from whom you’re supposed to buy a special sword. Fisk, however, asks for 110 ore, so bring a little extra money. Return the sword afterward, and Whistler will put in a good word for you.

  • Note: You can run off with both the ore and the sword. If you complete the remaining tasks, Whistler’s resentment won’t jeopardize your entry into the castle.

Help Sly in The Vanished Warder

Sly asks you to find the missing guard Nek. Leave the camp through the south gate and look for a cave on the right side of the area. Inside, you’ll find Nek’s body. Take his amulet and bring it back to Sly. That secures his recommendation.

A Ring For Fingers

Fingers can be convinced by practical skills. Talk to him in the outer ring. You’ll find him shortly before the arena, in the small nook on the right between Scatty’s hut and the castle wall. Before you can improve your lockpicking skill with him, you need to prove you’ve got what it takes. He asks you to steal a ring from Scatty’s hut next door. You’ll find help with lockpicking in Gothic 1 Remake in our guide.

  • Tip: Afterward, improve your lockpicking skill with Dexter to make the next task easier.

How to get The Cult’s Recipe for Dexter

Dexter needs an alchemy recipe from the Swamp Camp. For the trip there, join up with Baal Parvez, who is usually hanging around the campfire to the right of the castle entrance. He’ll lead you safely to your destination. The recipe is in a chest next to Kalom. Crack the lock, take the recipe, and bring it back to Dexter to gain his support.

Out Of Sight: Make Mordrag disappear from the Old Camp

At the castle gate, Thorus gives you the task of getting rid of Mordrag. You have three options.

  • Escort him to the New Camp: Mordrag leaves the Old Camp willingly and later gives you a ring – (OUR RECOMMENDATION)
  • Fistfight: You defeat him without killing him, after which he disappears.
  • Duel: You fight him to the death, which grants the most experience.

Once you’ve dealt with Mordrag, report back to Thorus and you’ll receive his support.

Impress Scatty with a fight in the arena

By now, you should have collected enough experience and learning points to survive a fight in the arena. Train your strength with Diego beforehand, then challenge Kirgo. You’ll usually find him in the middle of the arena during the day, and he is the easiest opponent. That’s enough for Scatty to put in a good word for you. We explain where to find a sword here.

Get the list from the Old Mine for Diego

Diego’s test of trust takes you to the Old Mine. Talk to him thoroughly before you set out and ask about the background of the job. That gives you information that will help you later with Ian. Bring some beer so you can bribe one of the guards in the mine later.

Go to Graham, threaten to beat him up, and he’ll give you a map with the route marked on it. The path to the mine leads north from the Old Camp. At the fork, keep right. Inside the mine, descend several levels until you reach Ian at the table with Alberto. Tell him Diego sent you, and you’ll receive the supply list right away. After that, bring it back to the Old Camp to complete the task.

  • Note: Optionally, you can also show the list in the New Camp and collect additional rewards. Afterward, return to Diego and hand it in.

How to convince Gomez and join the Old Camp in Gothic 1 Remake

Ask Diego regularly about your current reputation. To be accepted into the Shadows, you need enough votes from the outer ring as well as at least level 5. Once you have collected enough points, Diego sends you to the castle, where the next section begins.

In the castle’s main hall, you’ll meet Raven, who then takes you to Gomez. Name four contacts from other camps whom you have met so far, such as Lares, Mordrag, or Lester. Careful: If you lie and name someone like the leader of the Cult Camp, Gomez will punish you and attack immediately.

After the conversation, you are officially accepted. You receive the Shadow armor, a large amount of experience points, and additional ore as a reward.
