In this guide, I’ll show you where to track down the ingredients for the Ulu-Mulu and how to get into the orc camp in Chapter 4 of Gothic 1 Remake.
In the fourth chapter of Gothic 1 Remake, you need the Ulu-Mulu — a sacred standard that proves to the orcs you’re not just some ordinary weakling. The problem: the four ingredients required to make it come from unique monsters scattered all across the Colony. Each of these beasts appears only once.
Gothic 1 Remake: Where to Find the Four Ingredients for the Ulu-Mulu
Before you set out, make sure to get the mount in Gothic 1 Remake, because you’ll be covering a lot of ground. Each Ulu-Mulu ingredient drops from a unique monster that will not respawn after it dies. Save before every one of these fights.
In the sections below, I’ll show you where to find these beasts and how to take them down. The order follows the monsters’ difficulty, from easiest to hardest.
Teeth of a Swampshark
The Swampshark Mother is hiding in the waters southeast of the Swamp Camp. From the temple, keep left and pass the fighting area. From there, you’ll reach a large, broken tree trunk. Swim past it on the left and keep going until you see a thin veil of mist over the water — that’s where the swampshark territory begins.
Cross the wooden bridge and head straight through the swamp. You’ll recognize the Swampshark Mother right away — she’s much larger than the regular swampsharks swimming around the area. Before you rush in, clear out all nearby creatures first. The Swampshark Mother is unpleasant enough on her own; you don’t need extra company.
Her attacks can knock you flat in no time, but they’re easy to read. When she rears up in front of you, a forward snap follows immediately. Dodge it, and she’ll stay down for a moment, giving you time to land two hits. Repeat this until her health bar is empty.
Tongue of Fire
You’ll find this brute in the barren landscape around Xardas’ Tower. It’s lighter in color than the other Fire Lizards, so it’s hard to miss. The Fire Lizard isn’t a major obstacle, but don’t get careless in melee range. If its fire catches you, you’ll be cooked in seconds.
Lightning spells or ranged weapons are the much safer option. If you still want to go in with a sword, keep moving and attack after its fire attack. Then back off as far as possible again.
Horn of a Shadowbeast
This is one of the nastiest fights on the way to the Ulu-Mulu. The old Shadowbeast is lurking in front of a waterfall west of the Old Mine. Start at the north gate of the Old Camp and cross the bridge. Keep left at the first fork, then left again at the second. Don’t take the next bridge on the left; instead, follow the path northwest.
Shadowbeasts are tough enemies. You ran into the last one while searching for the focus stones. This one is even worse. Go in at full health, bring plenty of healing potions, and rely on dodge rolls after its attacks. Its claw swipes always follow a left-right pattern. After that, there’s a short pause — your best chance to counterattack. If it turns around, watch out for its tail. If it charges at you, dodge to the side, or it will skewer you.
Troll Tusk
You’ll encounter the mighty troll in Troll Canyon, a cliffside area north of the Old Camp. You already took one down here in Chapter 3. This time, you’ll have to do it without Milten’s tricks. Thankfully, trolls aren’t the fastest enemies — but a single hit is enough to send you halfway to the afterlife.
Keep moving, use ranged attacks or magic, and don’t let yourself get backed into a corner. A summoned golem works beautifully as a distraction here — while the troll pounds away at the golem, you can safely unload from a distance.
Don’t let the little goblin warriors get under your skin. Always take them out before attacking the troll. Watch for the following attacks: if you keep your distance, it will throw a boulder at you. If you’re too close, it will jump up and slam its fists into the ground when it lands. In both cases, one well-timed dodge roll is enough.
The best moment to counterattack is after one of its claw swipes misses. Dodge sideways and strike while the swing is still recovering. It usually attacks only once, but don’t let that fool you. Only move in when you’re sure it isn’t about to follow up with another hit.
Find Tarrok and Have Him Craft the Standard
Once all four trophies are in your inventory, head to the Free Mine south of the New Camp. Tarrok, an orc blacksmith, is locked in a cell in the prison block. Together with Grok, you’ll first need to clear the mine of its occupiers. At the very bottom, you’ll eventually reach a water basin with a Minecrawler Warrior inside.
Don’t follow the path here — it leads to a boss fight. Instead, climb up the rock wall on the left. This route takes you to a prison block where two minecrawlers are waiting. Kill them and open the cell on the right to free Tarrok.

Talk to Tarrok and hand over all four ingredients at once. He won’t accept them one by one — it has to be everything in a single handoff. He’ll then get to work and forge the standard. You’ll need to let at least one day pass before returning. Of course, it would be too easy if he simply handed it over after that. Instead, Tarrok wants to test your courage and challenges you to a fight. Save beforehand.
In the fight against Tarrok, distance is your best friend. He uses heavy melee attacks and can pin you against walls if you stay too close. Wait out his swings, dodge-roll away, then land a quick hit. Lightning spells also work well here. The fight is manageable — if you survived the Shadowbeast and the troll, Tarrok shouldn’t give you too much trouble.
After you win, loot Tarrok to get the finished Ulu-Mulu.
Where Is the Orc Camp?
The quest “The Orc Camp” starts automatically once the standard has been crafted and rewards you with a hefty 2,000 experience points. The orc camp is tucked away on the northwestern edge of the Colony, beyond a mountain pass behind the Old Mine. Just getting there is a small adventure in itself.

With the Ulu-Mulu in your inventory, set out from the Old Camp toward Xardas’ Tower. The entrance to the orc camp is on a hill northwest of the tower. Ur-Shak is standing by a small wooden bridge right at the camp entrance. Talk to him, and the quest is complete. To start Chapter 5, equip the standard and wield it like a weapon. The Ulu-Mulu works like a pass in banner form. Once the gate opens, Chapter 4 ends.
