Chapter 2 of Gothic 1 Remake takes you deep into dangerous mines. Our walkthrough shows you the best route through every key quest.
Chapter 2, “The Minecrawler Nest,” is a much tougher test than the opening stretch of Gothic 1 Remake. Keep these tips in mind at all times: Always have a ranged option, even if you are mainly playing as a melee fighter. Also, never enter the mine or cemetery without enough healing potions, and do not take on enemy groups head-on. Pull individual enemies out of formation instead.
Your preparation is especially important in the Orc Cemetery. It can mean the difference between fighting your way through and reloading over and over. Always create manual saves before major sections, especially before the Abandoned Mine, the Old Mine, the ritual, and the Orc Cemetery. That way, one mistake or a bad sequence of events will not cost you your progress.
Gothic 1 Remake Chapter 2 Walkthrough: The Right Quest Order
The central questline in “The Minecrawler Nest” builds on itself, even if the game does not spell that out. Tackle the quests in this order:
- The Lost Apprentice
- Y’Berion (temple access)
- The Focus Stone
- The Almanac
- The Minecrawler Nest, including the gear wheel quest
- The Great Awakening
- The Orc Cemetery
Stick to that route, and you will get important items such as the Ring of Vitality early enough while avoiding unnecessary backtracking.
The Lost Apprentice: Finding Caine’s Hut
Your journey begins with Cor Kalom in the Swamp Camp. If you are denied access, mention in the dialogue that you know Caine. Then head to Caine’s hut near the swampweed mashers — it is the hut where you now have access to a free bed. Inside, you will find the drawing of the Abandoned Mine. With that information, Lester sends you on your way.
Abandoned Mine: Finding the Loose Winch
The Abandoned Mine is the first real trial of the chapter. Inside, you will find a multi-level dungeon. Once you reach the large pool, you need to recover a loose winch from the bottom and attach it above the gate on the left. Only then can you raise the gate and leave the area.

At the end, you will face an undead orc. It is a tight, close-quarters fight, so watch your timing and use the room to your advantage. After the fight, take its “strange amulet” and return to Cor Kalom.
After you return, access to the temple opens up. The conversation with Y’Berion is brief, but extremely important, because this is where you receive two main quests at once. From here, Chapter 2 branches out for the first time.
Finding the Focus Stone and the Almanac
The Focus Stone is the better first step. Go to Nyras, and he will lead you to the target area. After the conversation, a short fight breaks out, and you will receive the first Focus Stone. Next, you should look for the Almanac.
To do that, head to the Old Camp first and speak with Milten in the castle courtyard. He sends you to a goblin cave southeast of the Old Camp. Bring at least one torch and plenty of healing items. You can find the exact location on our map for Gothic 1 Remake.
This area quickly becomes chaotic because many enemies attack at once. Advance carefully, lure individual goblins away from the group, and watch out for their throwing attacks.
- Tip: Once you have killed all the goblins, make sure to collect their clubs. You can sell them to merchants and give your coin purse a nice boost.
In the back of the cave, you will find not only the Almanac, but also the Ring of Vitality. This item is valuable for the rest of the chapter because it increases your maximum health by 50 points.
After returning to Y’Berion, you also receive experience and can choose between several rewards.
Old Mine: Convince the Templars and Find Ian’s Wheel
The longest section of Chapter 2 begins now. Before you head into the Old Mine, you need to learn how to harvest minecrawler mandibles from Cor Angar.
Several quests run in parallel inside the mine:
- Ian needs a replacement gear wheel
- You need three Templars to gain access to the nest
- One of the Templars demands four minecrawler mandibles
You recruit the Templars in different ways: one helps right away, one wants swampweed, and the third demands four mandibles. So go minecrawler hunting first. The easiest way is to kill a few of the beasts together with Gor Na Bar. Head into the corridor guarded by the Templar and lure the minecrawlers to him. He and a few diggers will help you in the fight.

Ian’s gear wheel is in a side shaft inside a pit with several minecrawlers. Starting from Ian, head downward until you see a guard on the right side of the main path standing in front of a cave branch. At this point, you will barely stand a chance in a direct fight inside the pit unless your build is already unusually high-level.
Instead, try to reach the narrow corridor at the back of the pit. There, you can take out the minecrawlers one by one without risking an attack from behind. If you want to avoid a fight, try climbing into the pit from the back, sprint around the outside, grab the wheel, and escape up the ladder. You will need to be quick, though, and it may take a few attempts before you get the hang of it.

Once you have taken care of everything, the story leads you to a passage that needs to be blown open. Just follow the instructions and have a few conversations until you are allowed to place the explosive charge.
The Minecrawler Nest: Boss Fight Against the Queen
The hardest fight in the game so far is waiting behind the rubble. The Minecrawler Queen has a huge health pool, high resistances, and can take a serious beating.
After the fight, take the eggs and the other quest items, then return to Cor Kalom.
The Great Awakening
After you hand over the eggs, the ritual begins. You need to wait until midnight and then head to the temple square. A major story moment happens here, one that changes the Swamp Camp. Afterward, speak with the leaders in the temple area again.
The Orc Cemetery: Finding the Key Halves and Finishing Chapter 2 of Gothic Remake
Now it is time for the final major section of Chapter 2. Speak with Cor Angar to receive the quest, and Talas will lead you to the Orc Cemetery. The entrance is a skull gate with a small puzzle: You need to hit the two targets to the left and right of the skull with a ranged attack, using either a bow or magic. Inside, a longer dungeon with several objectives awaits.

Careful: The enemies here are much stronger than anything you have faced before. Their attack combos are especially dangerous and can throw you off balance fast.
Once you have found Baal Lukor on the floor with the locked gate, you need to locate two key halves in the crypts below. The first is on a corpse in front of the orc sarcophagus with the two green torches. The second half is carried by the corpse behind the barred gate, which you open with the lever on the wall to the left.

Now unlock the gate, kill the orcs, and follow the path. After the final fight, pick up the Focus from the Sea Cliff and the one-handed sword “Fearbringer.” Return to Cor Angar to complete the quest.
