One of the trickier lock sequences in the Swamp Camp is waiting for you in Cor Kalom’s lab: You’ll need to open a locked chest to get an important recipe. We’ll show you how to get inside unnoticed and crack the locks reliably.
The path to the lab is part of the quest “The Cult’s Recipe,” which you need to complete to gain entry to the castle in the Old Camp. To save you unnecessary trouble and a pile of broken lockpicks, this guide gives you the help you need.

How to Get Into the Lab Unnoticed
Before you even try your luck with the chests, you first need to reach the lab in the Swamp Camp safely. Let Baal Parvez accompany you, whom you’ll usually find at the campfire to the right of the castle gate in the Old Camp. He’ll lead you safely to the camp and take out a few enemies along the way, earning you some extra experience in the process.
Once you arrive in the Swamp Camp, Lester will take you straight to Cor Kalom’s lab. If you can’t find him, just follow the signposts marked with test tubes.
Timing is crucial: Wait until nightfall. That’s when the guard leaves his post, allowing you to enter the hut without risking trouble. During the day, you’ll be spotted quickly.
Walkthrough: How to Open Cor Kalom’s Chests for The Cult’s Recipe
The locks in Gothic 1 Remake are not based on luck; they follow clear rules. Each tooth has several possible positions, represented by holes. One of these holes contains a golden pin. The most important chest in the lab is right next to Cor Kalom and contains the recipe you’re looking for. Here, you need to move the teeth in a fixed order. For our combination, we assume that the bottom tooth is A and the top tooth is D.

If you execute the sequence correctly, the chest opens without any further resistance.
There’s another chest in the upper area of the lab, and it is considerably more complex. But it’s worth the effort: As a reward, you’ll receive 2x drugs, the Ring of Purification, the Pyrokinesis scroll, 3x Darkweed, 3x Sulfur, and a statue.
