In Directive 8020, you’ll have to make another escape in Episode 3. This time, Cernan is up, and Williams must not spot him. We’ll show you how to get away without being detected.

Episode 3 of Directive 8020 throws you straight back into survival mode as Cernan. You’ve barely had time to process the previous events before you’re running for your life again. Williams is no longer himself, and he’s right on your heels. The game gives you a rough idea of what to do here, but leaves you mostly on your own when it comes to the actual route. To help you reach the control room as quickly as possible, we’ll walk you through how to avoid getting caught and pick up the “Not Today, Boss” trophy along the way.

Watch Williams to learn his patrol routes

After the chaotic escape from “Simms”, the third episode is all about timing, so you should absolutely slow things down here. At first, Williams follows fixed routes that are easy to read if you watch him for a few seconds.

Stay calm in cover, use your scanner, and watch for the moment he turns away. Once you recognize the pattern, you’ll have enough openings to move forward bit by bit. Williams reacts to noise, but especially to your flashlight. So keep it off for now.

Restore power to the control room

Once you’ve worked your way toward the control room, you’ll quickly realize the door is sealed and you need to restore power. Opposite the control room, you’ll find a terminal that opens a window. Climb through and stay hidden for the moment, because from here on out Williams becomes more unpredictable and gets much closer. There isn’t a direct Turning Point before the control room, but you can restart the scene from the beginning in an emergency.

With his position in view, look to the left. The next window is waiting there. Climb through this one as well and take a moment to look around. First, activate the floor vent, then use the terminal on the wall. This restores power to the area.

Williams will now enter this area too. You can either move quickly and escape straight through the vent, or wait a few seconds until he leaves the room again. Personally, I didn’t think about it for long and got out immediately. You’ll return to the first room, climb back through the window, and watch Williams’ patrol routes again.

Get Cernan back to the control room

After the detour, the patrol routes change again. Williams now patrols directly along the control room, which looks like a problem at first but actually gives you a clear opening. Wait until his back is turned, sneak past him, and head straight for the door. Once you’re inside, a short sequence starts in which Williams still sees you, but can no longer catch you.

How to get “Not Today, Boss”

The trophy in Directive 8020 is tied to one simple condition: You must not get caught a single time during this entire sequence.

That means:

  • don’t make any mistakes with the patrol routes
  • don’t move too early
  • use the scanner regularly

If you make it through, “Not Today, Boss” will unlock right after the escape.
