Players who have already completed Edward Kenway’s story cannot currently begin a second playthrough in New Game Plus. The mode is not yet available in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. However, that will not remain the case forever: Ubisoft has confirmed that the feature is already in development.

New Game Plus confirmed for Black Flag Resynced

The confirmation came from Game Director Richard Knight. During an interview with Assassin’s Creed-focused YouTuber JorRaptor, Knight was asked directly about the possibility of a New Game Plus mode.

His answer was clear: the development team is already working on it. New Game Plus is among the first major features Ubisoft intends to address following the game’s release. Knight could not provide a specific launch date, but confirmed that the mode is high on the team’s list of post-launch priorities.

Here is what we know so far:

  • New Game Plus is currently not playable
  • the mode is already in development
  • no release date has been announced
  • its exact features have not yet been finalized

You will therefore need to wait a little longer before restarting Edward Kenway’s journey with progress carried over from your first playthrough.

Why development could move more quickly

The development team can apparently draw on its experience with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Ubisoft also developed a New Game Plus mode for Shadows, which means the studio considers the fundamental implementation for Black Flag Resynced to be relatively low-risk.

However, the existing system cannot simply be transferred without modifications. Richard Knight explained that the two games differ in several important ways. Among other things, the team must determine how the beginning of a new playthrough and access to Edward’s Great Inagua hideout should work.

New Game Plus is therefore unlikely to arrive as an unchanged copy of the mode found in Shadows. Certain systems will need to be adapted specifically for the campaign, open world, and progression structure of Black Flag Resynced.

What progress will carry over into New Game Plus?

Ubisoft has not yet revealed which content players will be able to carry over into a new playthrough. Possible examples include:

  • Edward’s weapons and equipment
  • unlocked outfits
  • skills and character upgrades
  • Jackdaw upgrades
  • cosmetic ship customizations
  • collected resources or money

For now, however, these are merely the most likely possibilities. Ubisoft has not confirmed which progress will actually carry over or which content players will need to unlock again.

The difficulty level also remains undecided. Enemies could become more powerful in New Game Plus to prevent Edward’s high-level equipment from trivializing every early-game encounter. On the other hand, Knight described the feeling of easily defeating early enemies with powerful endgame gear as one of the appealing aspects of such a mode.

Will New Game Plus include new rewards?

Additional weapons, outfits, and other exclusive rewards have not been confirmed either. Richard Knight said he would like to include this kind of content, but whether that will be possible ultimately depends on the required production effort and the development time available.

New equipment must not only be balanced for gameplay, but also modeled, animated, and, in some cases, fitted with additional fabric simulations. The team is therefore still discussing how extensive the final mode can realistically be.

  • For comparison: New Game Plus in Assassin’s Creed Shadows allows players to unlock additional rewards as well as another Achievement or Trophy. Whether Black Flag Resynced will offer a similar incentive remains to be seen.
