During the main mission “Claiming What’s Due,” you must sneak through Torres’ estate undetected, find the Cell Key, and rescue the Sage. Our walkthrough shows you the quickest and safest route to your objective.

“Claiming What’s Due” places a much greater emphasis on stealth in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. While you can fight your way through the entire estate, following a discreet route along the right-hand side is considerably easier. This saves time and means you only have to deal with a handful of guards.

Sneak into the estate

After sharing a drink with Stede, the mission begins directly across from the tavern. Slip through the gap in the fence and immediately hide in the tall grass. You can eliminate every guard in the estate, but doing so is not necessary to complete the mission.

If a guard is blocking your path, you can whistle to lure him into the tall grass and quietly assassinate him. This is the safest way to remove individual guards without alerting the entire estate. Make sure you do not remain in their line of sight for too long, however, as some enemies can detect Edward from a considerable distance.

Remain on the right-hand side and use the patches of tall grass as cover. Continue forward until you reach the ladder east of the watchtower. Climb to the top and silently take out the gunner. He has an excellent view of the surrounding area and can expose your position quickly.

Climb back down and continue following the wall on the right. You can ignore the two guards beside the campfire. Even if they briefly become suspicious, you can usually continue without being detected. Another guard patrols the area at the top of the stairs. Wait until he turns away, then quickly slip into the tall grass around the corner.

Assassin’s Creed Black Flag: How to find the Cell Key

Continue following the objective marker until you reach the next courtyard. On the way, you will see several people standing in a line while a warden attacks one of the prisoners. Keep to the right once again and use the rope lift beside the building to reach the rooftops. This provides a much safer route and gives you a clear view of the entire area.

After a short while, the warden carrying the Cell Key will begin his patrol. You can identify him not only by the objective marker, but also by his distinctive Indiana Jones-style hat. You can now either perform an Air Assassination from the rooftop or whistle to lure him into the bushes before quietly taking him down.

Luring the warden away with a whistle is considerably safer, as few – if any – of the surrounding guards will notice you. An attack from the rooftop, on the other hand, may leave you fighting at least five or six enemies. Since combat in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is relatively forgiving, however, this more aggressive approach is usually manageable as well. Once you have collected the Cell Key, make your way back toward the prison. If you suffer from motion sickness, adjusting these five settings can make the game much more comfortable to play.

Reach the prison with the Cell Key

With the key in your possession, return across the main courtyard and head toward the large building marked on the map. The gate is no longer guarded, allowing you to approach it and unlock the door without any further resistance. Torres is already waiting on the other side, however. It quickly becomes clear that you have arrived too late: someone else reached the prison first and freed the Sage.

This concludes “Claiming What’s Due”, with the story of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced continuing directly into the next main mission.
